cam change question.

I'm playing around with the spiderjack 2.1 and i'm wondering what the sighns are for the cam to be changed? It's a pretty fun device so far but I have my worries about the thing failing from unnoticed wear to the cam. Anyone have in-depth knowledge? Thanks.

I don't know about the SJ. When I was climbing on LockJacks I could tell when it was time to change the cam or rope diameter because the LJ would start to slip a little. There was always a new cam in my kit bag along with the right tools so that I could change out the cam. That was when I ordered a replacement cam too. Just to make sure that I was never without a new cam on-deck.

Same experience as Tom. There are some threads out there about touching them up yourself to get some more life, or moving to a fatter rope. I'm not sure if touching them up yourself would cause the body to wear as well though. Read up before you consider it.

I have some fresh cams here for the next few days. If you'd like a closeup pic of a fresh one for comparison let me know.

Oh..... You'll know!

Seemed to take some purposeful setting, and you'll notice it creep and not set under low loads. That and just plain slipping in general.

Thanks Adam! I wish someone would make a vid , of a bad cam vs good one. My biggest fear with the devise is that in daily work, you dont always start from ground to test and set things. I would hate to tie in while aloft only to find the cam is shot from the week before! Joe Harris had said that you will not slip violently down the rope but , it will be very noticeable when its time to change the cam?
