Buttcatch

Here's a dead Douglasfir with a manicured landscape in the drop zone. We had to lower everything, including brush & wood. The wood was dry and lightweight.

Here's a shot of the drop zone. The Port-A-Wrap and 1/2" Hi-Vee rope was a bit on the light side for this heavy work.

This is a close-up of the 5/8" block & 3/4" Tenex sling, with the facecut in. Ready to rock 'n roll ! There was a slight swale to the trunk, so pushing the slightly leaning pieces over wasn't a big deal.

Loking down on the facecut with the camera held high overhead. Looking up is Glen Decker, whose job I was helping on. After a while, we were able to talk John (holding the rope) into putting on his hardhat.

Notice John, who was dazzled by dreams of stardom, has donned his hat. This piece smoked the Hi-Vee line where it ran across the lowering device. They were cut a bit shorter after this one.

Didn't look at their gear too close. 1 1/2" or so, I spose. The PW had 2 different sets of marks where someone had wrapped it the wrong way, once upon a time.

Here's a long shot view from below. Think this tree could have been saved?

The tree was way up on a hill behind the house. 30 steps zig-zagged up to the terrace. Newly planted Aspen and Cherry in the bed just below the tree would've been mowed down like a lawn if one of these logs had gotten away from us.
