Business Mistakes Here Are Mine - What Are Yours?

I’m starting to enjoy poking the bear (not intentionally referring to his looks), so maybe this thread should be stopped
So much hate on my post for the simple reason I shared a video instead of writing a post about it. Because I posted a video instead, they assume I'm trying to gain views for my videos. So moving forward I'll post a picture or two with a question, but I'm sure they'll be something else they will find to hate about my post.

One of the biggest mistakes I made was simply waiting so long to get a bigger chipper and a loader. I thought I was doing just fine without. We do a lot of big removals and I made do with a 9” chipper(s) for over a decade before I got a15” bandit with a winch and a bobcat excavator with grapples and then a giant with bmg. Seeing how much more we can do now, kinda makes me sick looking at all the time I wasted before.

What's your full setup now? how many trucks etc. I owned a 6" bandit and sold it, it was faster for us to load everything with skid steer without chipping than having to wait for the guys to chip one branch at a time. So I've been pondering the option of buying larger chipper maybe 14-18" this way can load branches to the chipper with skid, more efficient and not having to pay to dump load.

If I had a place to dump (besides county dump) I’d eliminate the chipper from most jobs. But that’s not the case so feeding the chipper with machines is best for me now. After I got the loader I realized what a bottleneck the small chipper is. Bought the 15” and it’s not like I chip 15” logs all day, I don’t. But I can stuff a big grapple load of brush in there and it gobbles it up. Before, we did it one or 2 limbs at a time. Huge increase in production. I’m a one crew show, contemplating expanding to 2. I prefer quality to quantity.

Way to go buddy. You take the logs to the mill or for firewood? And I’m with you on quality to quantity.

I saw a guy with a beard like that get it stuck in his friction hitch. Looked painful.

There, bad business decision and we’re back on topic, you’re welcome :)
About a decade ago I had a big shaggy red beard that went all the way down near my belly button. One day the entire world smelled bad and no matter where I went it still stunk... Turned out it was my chicken fat drenched, kale infested beard that was stinking to high heaven. Cleaned that thing up and I have been minty fresh ever since......

I used to have long hair, every once in awhile I’d get it sucked up into a Blake’s hitch and be stuck as hell. When I wasn’t close to the trunk I’d have to get my knife out and saw away at my hair to free myself. Fun times

Mostly firewood, around here we need a timber harvest plan to sell anything to the mill so it isn’t worth it for just a log or 2. Needs to be a full scale timber sale to go to the mill otherwise it gets cut up into little bitty pieces. Occasionally I can find someone with a portable mill that’s interested in something, hate making firewood out of a nice straight 3’ Doug fir.

Holy $hit show...what the hell happened while i was working...
Like men, we all had it out, fur flying; then we started talking shop, singing songs, and painting rainbows together. I love the male psyche. I am one, yet I still marvel how we turn from brutal to besties on a dime.

For those of you who think I’m here just to spam my videos, here is the man himself, replying to one of my comments from a few years ago, he was talking about natural rigging. I have put my time to learn everything I can get my hands on, always open to learn but from the right people. And if you don’t know who this man is, the jokes on you.

Bought mine last January. Bmg was $3100, mini was $28,500 with bucket forks and brush guard. Works out to $580/mo as I asked for a 3 mo deferment of the first payments to plump up the bank account in the winter. Vermeer and Bobcat were pretty much the same cost here, Bobcat was cheapest with no interest (but for a reason...).
