I went for a walk up in the Missionary Ridge Burn today. 70,000 acres burned to a crisp in 2002. It is kind of sketchy now- lots of dead burned trees falling across the trail. Some places there are star shaped holes in the ground where the trees completely burned out - stumps and all. Other places it is kind of spooky with giant ponderosas dead as door nails just waiting to fall. Every once in a while along a little drainaige there is a giant live pondo or doug fir that must be a genetic "giant" that every other living thing near by is completletly scorched waiting to re seed the forest with hardy fire resistant seeds. Some really cool ancient Junipers have survived also that could speak volumes of anasazi tales if they could speak.
