Building the Bridge of The Gods

The things this country and human beings accomplished back in the old days were simply amazing. Nothing was impossible. Nothing was undoable. No whining. No excuses. Attack the task at hand, and move on to the next one. What the heck happened to us?
 
You reckon people aren't still doing this? Technology happened. Giant machines build bridges and dig tunnels with joysticks and keyboards.

Iron workers still build the new tallest buildings in the world.
 
It was more a comment on us as a nation actually tackling some of our issues. Crumbling infrastructure. Planet and environment melting down. People being poisoned by their drinking water in Flint. Just 3 quick examples of problems that we seem unwilling to try and fix, even with all the technological advancements we have made. My point is that we have generally become spoiled, soft, entitled, and lazy as a nation. I'm pretty sure that todays America would be incapable of building the America that made us the so-called "greatest nation on earth." Why? What changed?
