BryDan harness

I just got a new Brydan that I haven't got to try yet but I am liking the way it looks and feels. I have had a hard time with lightweight harnesses for longer climbs. I , at one time had a buckingham traverse with a bosuns chair that I sent back to buckingham to have suspenders added and I liked it but it wore thin and I switched to a tree Austria which I liked but it sorta dug in on long days. Then I had another traverse made up and it never really fit quite right so it is like new in the rafters of the barn. Then I got a sequoia which was comfy except for long days. So the latest I've been on for about 2 and a half years is a buckingham ergo light which has some nice features but it just won't stay adjusted aloft. So after having a long chat with Robert Phillips out at western ISA in Yosemite last year Decided to give the brydan a try. I'm pretty sure Bob's been using one version or another of this harness for around forty years.
Don Blair was very helpful in getting me into this rig and put some very personal touches on mine! Custom! When you call Blair arborist supply and talk to Don it's like getting a free clinic in old school tree care, climbing rigging and history. It was great talking to Mr. Blair after having made his acquaintance many moons ago. A true gentleman! (Oakman)

I hope you enjoy your new harness. I was in on the development of the Brydan and believe it to be one of the safest and most comfortable climbing harnesses ever built. I would love to see some pictures of the current model if you get the chance.

Is that the newer model that was supposed to be coming out with a rated suspension point on the back of the suspenders?

I have a model from a couple of years ago that the leg straps hook and loop material doesn't stay put very effectively in tree work usage.

Any saddle that I have ever had which has adjustments needs a few stitches of whipping twine through the straps to keep adjustment.

Thanks for that tip, Merle. I for some reason have not noticed my Tree Motion saddle working itself out of adjustment, but I'll try to keep a closer eye on things in the future. So your tip is a good one if it ever becomes an issue. This also raises the idea of somehow marking the various straps as to position once you get a saddle setup exactly how you want it, in order to be able to quantify the amount of change in position that is occurring.

So, the $64,000.00 question is, is there any piece of climbing gear for arborists that you haven't helped to develop?
