broke my bigshot rubber band part today

Been here a while
Well broke my Big shot rubber band today, had it for 3 years. Was installing ropes in a big sugar maple that had been decimated by wood peckers. Got one line up, wanted to use another for side control. Went to shoot it up and bammo it broke, was way to dense to hand throw it. So went with one rope, put a few wedges in it, came down nice for us! was also on the side of a fairly steep hill with houses not to far away. Was a nasty one, used the masdam with a 2:1 and gave it a back cut half way thru and got I into a safe zone and my groundie pulled it over right where we wanted it! I will try and upload some pics.

I used my bigshot with the original rubber for 4 years. It started dryrotting at about three years. Every time I pulled that thing back I was waiting to get smacked in the face. Ended up replacing it, and must say, it was an easy replacement. Had to razor off the old bands and with a couple drops of dish soap... wallah! took awhile to get used to the new bands but it's all good now.

It helps to keep it out of sunlight, if possible. Also, don't let it near anything sharp, ever. One little tiniest nick and it's all over soon enough.

Easier to keep it safe if it is detached from the pole when not in use - keep it in a bag. That thing is priceless on some trees. Really, what's better than a Big Shot on certain trees- a crane? Big price difference.

For sure, calling Sherrill first thing this morning for a replacement head. I do a lot of rural tree work, and some times its hard to get a good hand throw on some of the bigger trees with so much under brush. So having the Big shot is a must for me for sure! Can't complain about how long its lasted as its used a lot on a daily basis.
