Bridge question

I climb on a Master classic saddle and want to try a bridge system. I was going to order the butterfly II replacement bridge and try that. Has anyone done this? Do the clevises come with the bridge? Thanks for any info.

Chris

U can rig up a bridge system on you classic with 2 bieners and a double spliced eye rope.

The clevises don't come with the bridge, you can get them at Wespur or Bosun's Supplies.

I used a piece of 11mm rope on a my Master Classic and just stopper knotted it. It worked well enough that I bought a Butterfly II.

If you use clevises, use locktite.

I recommend just tying a piece of rope on first, and giving it a little try. You might find that you don't like the feel of how it pulls.

If you find that it feels good for you (i LOVE mine) then you can invest the dough knowing you won't be paying for gear that's just going to be sitting there.

Thanks for the ideas so far. On the splicing side of things now. If using a locked brummel how much tail do you need to bury? It seems to me that the bridge would be too short to allow enough room to bury both ends. Or do they overlap? What type/size of rope would you recommend?

Thanks again.

Any opinoins on what rope to use. I have only done locked brummels with the tenex and don't know what other rope I could use.

2 clevises, 2 micro rigging paws, then install your rope bridge threw the holes as you would on a treemotion (your attachment points might be to close together on a master 2 saddle for this to work though) works on the seqouia

I am still wondering about what type of rope I would use for this application. I can't imagine doing the double brummel with 16 strand, I don't know if the double braid would retain enough strenght in the cover alone. Any ideas?

It sounds like you're still unsure whether to splice or knot. The Brummel splice is for HOLLOW Braid rope like Tenex or Vectran. 16 strand and double braids have their own specific splices. For a bridge you'll want to cover most hollow braids to minimize abrasion.

If you're talking rope and stopper or hitch knots, you want something that holds a knot well like a double braid or kernmantle. When I tried it with my Master Classic I used PMI kernmantle rope, I think it's made for caving so it's a little stiff. I think I'd try a 24 strand double braid if I were to do it again.

You can do something sorta like this with clevises...

It's two sections of 5mm Vectran with locking Brummels on each end. They're covered with the jacket from some old kernmantle climbing rope. It has an oval cross section. I've been using it since November with no complaints so far.

Thanks Blinky for the pic and info. What do you mean two sections of 5mm Vectran. How does that work?
