Boxer 322D

As my deal for this boxer closes i know i have a good deal to take advantage of and i've read that you can't go wrong with boxers.

the only thing im worried about seeing how i will only get a brief trial of the machine..(which should make this clear) but will the small 300 series be to small for normal tree work. i mainly will use it for brush moving and big wood load into a trailer.

does anyone have any info on the particular 22 horse kabota ran machine that might be of interest?/

thanks in advance

the machine is a new demo unit

Seems like too small of a machine for tree work. If you put a 200lb grapple on it, it will only operate with a 400lb load.

I bought a ramrod 1150 for 12k and it has twice the capacity of the 322. I often work at its limit in terms of lifting wood. We can salvage logs with it (sometimes two dudes have to ride it to counter).

If you're going to spend 10k and you're going to lift wood, i would consider getting a machine with a bigger capacity.

I'm very happy with the ramrod.

yes. do you see me finding a bigger one for 9 grand though? i probably should shop longer and maybe get more funds if need be. i dunno because 400 pounds is quite a bit, if thats enough for what im doing. im second guessing myself on buying a mini at all right now.

I've heard terrible things about ramrods customer service.

As for the boxer, you won't be lifting big wood with the grapple, that's what the bucket is for, and the bucket is lighter then the grapple, usually two of our guys can lift the bucket with ease.

We've had the idea of buying the log splitter attachment for our mini skid steer to sell firewood. You could also split the larger pieces that can't be lifted and carry them in two but it will take more time, a few bucks more but at least you've got two pieces of equipment now. The log splitter is an additional 900 from branch manager attachments. That's also were we bought our grapple. We love it.

If you're looking to do all of your wood loading with the mini then you might want to consider something bigger. We will sometimes (when we don't have our tractor) hook a 5:1 craddle up to the hook on our bucket truck (no not the actual bucket but the one welded on the back) and we will "assist" long pieces of wood up into the truck, with the mini skid steer hauling the back end and the 5:1 countering the front. Works on certain pieces and with certain jobs. Only had to do this 4 times now that I think about it.

I have yet to deal with ramrod's customer service, but they are built in canada which will likely make it easier for me.

We always lift big wood with the grapple (Branch manager). I can't see how it would be easier with a bucket. Using straps i guess? Our machine can lift up to 2k lbs apparently, but you need a couple really fat dudes to counter that much.

Tanglehorn, are you budgeting a grapple in that 9k? 5k more isn't much more to spend for what you get. We use ours on 20% of jobs and it was well worth the investment.

yes it would do all my wood moving and i dont have a bucket truck.

the way i see it if im working on a budget of around 20,000 then i can either buy an older bucket truck that is probably on its way out or at least costly repairs to expect.

or

buy a pickup 10,000

buy a mini 10,000

buy a trailer 1000

to go with my f350 chip truck and 1250 vermeer

Tangle, that's a pretty tight budget to acquire all that gear. Maybe it's too soon for you to buy a mini? Add another truck to your operation too and you have more fuel, licensing, labour, repairs etc. If you haven't budgeted for a grapple even are you budgeting for working capital and funds to make it through the winter?

What's wrong with working the 350+chipper for another season? I think many will tell you that a 20k bucket is not a good way to go.

Tell me to shut up if i'm not helping.

haha no you are helping. i tell myself to slow down then i do and business goes good and i think its time to upgrade. its hard to know when to jump.. and the truck would come in spring with a vehicle loan and the mini would need a very small loan added to the 10,000 i have stashed . my winter money..haha i would rather have a mini and live in a igloo i built with it i think.

Minis are super fun but it is less fun to grow too fast and get swallowed by debt. You'll pay all off eventually pretty easily if you're at least a half assed arborist.

Enjoy your igloo, i'm going to make some pretty rad snow forts with the ramrod this winter.

My only problem would be 400 pounds is not that much, our tractor lifts about 1100 pounds and sometimes that seems small. I'm sure there good machines but I would want something with alittle more lifting capacity and another thing to look for is how high it lifts. I know when I looked at a dingo it wouldn't lift high enough to clear the sides of our dump trailer and everything would have to be put in through the back, one of the reasons I went with a tractor.

We have a 526 dx and with the grapple lifts some pretty decent size stuff.we once countered balance a stump that had to be over 1000 lbs easy, with me 200 lb,little harry a buck 40 and my 325 lb friend big E.We carried it across the yard and loaded it into our dump trailer. But honestly I wish i had one of those larger machines Dave is selling now,but it would be hard to fit thru alot of gates around here. The forks is what you want for big wood.
