Been seeing alot about "safety" bonuses lately and have been looking around at other "incentive" programs to check thier efficacy.
By and large it seems that bonus programs work but quite often it seem that less than half of the eligible participants actually participate.
I've seen this trend everywhere. Anyone that has worked with kids can attest to this, if you offer a prize for some performance only a handfull will really put the effort in to earn it.
So what do you do with the remaining "eligible parties?"
Positive consequences for right behaviour sounds like the way to go, but it appears to fail miserably.
Negative consequences, as maligned as they are in today's society, appear to almost always work.
Clearly people take the path of least resistance, and effort to "earn" something is often not that path, no matter how simple the extra task is. That, by default, makes avoidance of negative consequences the path of least resistance.
That said, do any of you "fine" your employees for failure to comply with rules or policies such as PPE requirements?
If so, how is your compliance program set up and how successful has it been?
Any word or thoughts on the legal aspects of such programs?
