bmg hydraulic lines

can anyone post a picture on how they run their lines to their BMG. they are either too loose and floppy and get tangled, or I wrap them up too tight and then they strain the lines. I can't seem to get it right. who has it figured out nice?
 
FWIW, if you don't have a flag sticker or similar left to indicate the resting position, facing the operator, it will be harder not to twist them up a bit too much.

approximately 58" of hose from grapple side to crossover in the boom gusset.

I've struggled with this with my Ditch Witch SK755. I frequently pinch mine where the attachment plate rotates. I put a bungee on the portion that was always getting pinched to keep it out of there (similar to what Merle is doing but without the added hanger tubing) and it seems to be working for now. Still doesn't keep the slack even on both sides. I've also considered messing around with hose wrap on different parts of the line. Definitely my biggest problem with the BMG, still worth trouble. Dave at Top Notch sells replacement hoses for less than half what I pay at my local shop, so I keep a few in the truck as well.
 
Be sure to consider the quality of the hose and fittings. Sometimes cheap is OK, sometimes not.

There is usually a shop that can make hoses lots cheaper than OEM and meet the quality

My BMG has 250 hours on it. No issue with hoses getting damaged. I'm not sure what you guys are doing to have the problem.

Again, worth asking, do you have the resting position marked?

If the swivel is not greased, the return to resting position is inhibited, possibly resulting in more twisting.
 
Look into something like chaff sleeve, rhino sleeve is one brand name also the spiral chaff guard works good as long as there is not a chance of debris getting caught in the the guard and chaffing the hose.
 
I have a bungee around the hoses where they pass through the triangle. Bungees are great for this application because they bend instead of breaking.20180405_120018.webp Worth noting that I have a different hose conformation - they run in parallel to my one-way check valve.
 
One way check valve??? Does your grip stay consistent on the outside of a big log or the flat sides of a large round of wood? Or do you need to frequently bump the pressure to keep piece from slipping out of your grip?

I just told a veteran ditch witch mechanic what my problem was and that I needed a one-way check valve installed. Came back and he had slapped it on the rear of the grapple, as you can see in the picture. Works great!20180409_124510.webp

Apparently, only some bmgs/users have this problem. I'm guessing it has to do with grease maintenance, hydraulic system configuration, or operator use patterns... I'm a very aggressive driver of an SK650 and I don't grease the bmg. It would be interesting to know anyone else's situation, but don't want to derail Kevin's thread further. My main point is that the bungee in the triangle works great to keep the hoses in place without busting them if they get caught on something.
