Bluemoon vs Tachyon Rope

I am shopping for a new rope,(that is light!) and have came down to either Bluemoon or tachyon, (aka pi or lava). I have heard of problems with tachyon fraying, and pi milking, a LOT. Which one is better? (I was considering Lightening too, but I think it is a little too pricey). The floor is open.

I've put many miles on my Tachyon, I use it DRT with a foot ascender (Pantin) and SRT with hand ascenders, there's no more fraying/wear than any other rope I've climbed for equal amount of time. If you don't use cambium/rope protection the outcome may be different.

It has a smoother cover than PI and is firmer in the hand. PI is a heavy rope compared to Tachyon. Tachyon is best gripped with smurf gloves when climbing DRT. My length of Tachyon has never milked, I've heard it has for some climbers.

Tachyon is hands down the best performing DRT rope I've ever climbed on.

I love both bluemoon and tachyon but I'm picking up a new tachyon line.

Don't do lightening unless you like using ropes with very high elongation. It's like a fricken bungie cord

My tach didn't last long but it was a great line. My bluemoon (pi) lasted forever but I just like the feel of tach

Just curious, are you running your Tachyon right on the bark most or some of the time? If so it might explain the durability problem.

dude i beat the crap out of my tach and it still looks new. i dry crotch it all the time. i've had the rope in production since the second week of march. and once again it still looks new.

Moss, I ran it 90 percent through a pulley. Apparently I'm the only one that has had a problem with it's longevity. I'm not one to beat up on my gear but I'm not totally against the idea that maybe I was harder on this rope then I think and I just don't remember.

Either way, I'll be ordering up another 200ft line from knot and rope supply. It really is a great rope

The blue moon seems to have the tendency to "fuzz" up more than the tachyon. That is neither a good or bad thing, just an unscientific observation.

Both ropes are really excellent products though, I climb with both and would say that both are real solid performers.

I would advise against fast decents without a pulley or friction saver. All my Blue Moon and Tachyon ropes have clear glazing where in the sections where I have run it way to fast over tree bark. Not the ropes fault......totally mine.

If you are a new splicer, and want to splice your own rope, the Blue Moon will probably be an easier one for you to splice, but other than that you can't go wrong.

Good, I don't want anyone to think we're together.

I have nothing against tachyon, I think it's a super cool rope... but I'm old and resist change so I'll keep my PI. But count me in on the consensus. Tachyon, I'm fer it.
