Im looking to see if anyone knows if there has been any research on Blue Stain's effect on Jack Pine, I've been looking and havent found anything. But here is the jist of why I ask.
The reserve that i take care of has a large Jack Pine population, largely over stocked.
There have been a number of tree failures. A large number from a very strong straight line wind.
None the less the trees are failing at the point where the blue stain turns over to clear wood.
Everything that i have read has said that there is no structural effect from blue stain, however, i have seen little research done on Jack Pine.
I have dissected maybe 20-25 damaged trees and all of them have the same pattern, blue stain above and then down to the snap or severe crack with little to none below.
I will post some pics when i get a chance.
