Blocking down Pines

What's this shi% the tree olympics , who cares really. Ego's are for kids and insecure folks. That " I can do it better and faster " attitude is what's gets dudes killed. I understand we all want to be as productive as possible, and I assume most here will agree that it's not at the expense of safety.

Wrong forum..... Post that at "and the winner is" and tell all those egomaniacs "who really cares?".. What does it really matter if it takes 15 seconds or 15 minutes to get into a tree? That "I can do it faster" attitude is obviously what has all these competition climbers dropping like flies..

Wow I thought this post was about Thesbian blocking down a 80'spar ( pine be it ) in 45 mins. Daniel I am not talking about competition climbers at all. This is about a dude asking whether other people do it faster etc and I still think " who gives a shi$ ". A smart climber will work at his own pace and comfort level according to his ability. A less than smart ( not to use the d word ) climber will try to do more to impress the boss or whoever his audience is. Therefore the bottom line is there are plenty climbers that can work quite quickly without compromising their safety or for that matter their crew's safety. Must be raining or lunchtime as the big guns are replying during the day. Again not jumping on anyone personally.

S.D. Your last sentence nailed it for me and that's the only reason I posted at all. I felt it was ok to assume that safety would be first for most anyone answering the initial question. When my ego goes first, it blows up in my face without fail but it helps that I can laugh at myself. It's all in good fun and I just like to work the bugs out of my rigging and work with cool people. When I posted that I squirm when people ask me "how fast?..." it's because I know they may value raw speed over safety and it's a very tough question to answer when not everyone on the crew has a hard hat and they're looking at me like "Well...you're sposed to be this climber guy blah blah blah". I can do my part at a moderate clip and still tear into the ground work but what good is any of that if one of them ends up a diaper case?

Whiz wasn't referring to ya dude. Was really referring to the original post by Thesbian, all is cool I just happened to post after you. I understand where you are coming from alls good.

45 minutes is a solid time. I did 4 the other day in 5 hours, I had to be extra careful because a couple of them had been dead for 3 + years. (Leaned towards water tank) Pieced them out in smaller even pieces, looked like an organized mess when I got down.

I did all of them with the 200T equipped with Oregon's PowerSharp 14" (which I have been using for over a month - LOVE IT) ... chain jumped off while matching a face cut so I used the TOPSAW tool to pop it back on. It's nice to be able to fix it in the tree! Sorry no video of that.

Made a clean $800, everyone was happy, I call it a win.

X, I was blocking it down with a block and rope for each piece. But the 45 minutes was just for the spar...it took a good 2 hours to get the limbs and the top outta there. It was just a good day, kind of clicking, you know what I mean?

It was taking about 3 minutes per chunk, I guess. I had a good ground man.

Good times...kind of makes up for those other days where things take twice as long as they're supposed to and then your ground guy shovels a load of gravel through the chipper at the end of the day

Watched a rushing climber install a block, notch and backcut a log to the ground. He was rushing and forgot to tie the log...

Find a steady rhythm and stick to it.
