Blakes tether, blakes assist rope queston.

After playing with and coming up with different tethers I have a couple of questions. One about the tether the other about knot strength.

This is a commercially available tether

Often I will tie an anchor hitch to my saddle and put a stopper knot on the tail, perhaps a half of a fisherman's around the working end for a stopper. Is it acceptable to use a Blakes hitch in place of this and in the same motion make it an adjustable tether? Or just use this one section of rope for an adjustable tether? I don't look for the same smoothness you would get from a DdRT system using a Blakes and it may be difficult to break after being weighted. Maybe a 3/2 Blakes.

Second question:
Is it possible by putting a Blakes hitch above a termination knot to increase the strength of the termination knot. Seems I remember being told the rope will break just as it enters the top of a bowline. Is it possible to put a Blakes hitch above that and capture the lost rope strength?
