Blakes hitch

If when taking down a spar, and the climb line is tied in a running bowline configuration around the spar, would it work to tie in to the single line using a blakes on a split tail instead of an 8 descender?
Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

A trick I was taught was tying the running bowline with a long tail, that allows you to release tension after you "rappel' down and tie in with buck strap .
loosen tension with tail, then slide loose rope down and re tension climb line( below your cut). .
It was discussed recently you might try to find it had a lot of useful info.
god Bless and climb safe

no, that would not work. When you pull on the hitch you would have no friction. You would go right to the ground man. If you don't have a figure-8 learn to tie a munters hitch.

Hey Matt when choking your climb line to rappel down wouldnt that be equivalent to SRT which creates double friction on hitch??

I just use my climbing hitch and re set after every time i move I use the VT and it works well.

I would recommend trying a distle hitch its a lot looser than the blakes and will move better after being loaded. but will still grab every time you "set back"

I think we need to clarify. you can always tie your split tail onto your climbing line srt to keep yourself in position if you are careful you can even ascend srt with a long enough tail but to rappel down you need something else for friction f-8 revolver set-up or a rope wrench. The set-up is just not optimal.

I always tie in with a blakes hitch (split tail) when working a spar removal... I leave a long tail so I can retrieve the loop when I get to the next cut..it works fine keep your eye on friction and keep an eight on you (of course) I would not use a munter alone for fear of something causing me to let go of the line and not being secure...

A false crotch work fine as well..
