Big Shot pouch catching on pole section edge when fired

I see you use the bigshot like I do with forks back towards you. I find it so much harder with forks forward to get accuracy I just take risk as forks back is much more intuitive.

Also hard to see from picture do you drape throwline over fork of bigshot down to throwbag? I find way less problematic and more accurate to boot, with added bonus less for throwline to get caught up in.

I can also have cube in front of bigshot towards target so even less chance for things/body to get caught up in throwline especially in woody areas with sticks on ground everywhere or weedy shrubs that like to catch the throwline.
No I launch line with cube next to me close. After launch I can easily grab throwline as it reaches intended target so it does not overshoot into canopy which creates new problems.

@swingdude it looks like you have the curve of the horns up. There have been discussions about this in the past.

To start, according to instructions the horns should be on the bottom.

The reason for this is that in a misfire the line will get snagged on the head and fly back at the operator. Very dangerous and if it happens you’ll be lucky not to take it in the face

The reasons for up have been aired. On my watch that wouldn’t happen. Just sayin...

Yes after using bigshot for a year actually looked up instructions. But already fixed the line tangle issue with the drape over, só stuck with the action that worked for me. I have spearfished too so used to inspecting rubber before using so comfortable with what I am doing albeit I wear glasses anyway near anything stretchy...

I just had my first significant big shot accident.
I had all my line flaked on the ground, and noticed I was in a bad spot to take my shot. I stepped a few strides to the tree and then shot. Had the line now behind me and a little to the right.

The throw line got sucked up under my ear muff, hanging down but not clipped. Had about 70’ of line burn under my ear lobe. Thought I got cut real bad at first but luckily just rope burn

Had same thing happen, hurts doesn’t it... now straight out of cube and in front...

If s bag snagged and came back st you a faceshield would probably not be enough

Be careful

Can see the danger even if chance is minimal - I am more worried about pole as sometimes get some pretty mean stretch on bands. If pole was nicked circumferentially I would probably replace that before worries about bag coming back. The length of line hanging down from fork is maybe 4 feet (length of stretch pull) and like a fly line on launch between inertia and wind resistance it keeps a pretty narrow profile and the loop disappears pretty fast... never had an issue since doing this way...

I apologize in advance if this is redundant but whenever I'm using my BigShot I make sure to keep fingers etc. away from the tensioned stuff as much as I can (born under the birth-sign of the Cringing Chicken . . . ). I use a bow trigger and pulley setup like Dan outlines in one of his older videos:
https: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qm7mKglOKL8
The pulley/ pouch/ throwbag are towards the ground (i.e. under the pole) with the throwbag line hangin' downwards, not up. Backwards woodsman style?
I find this lets me concentrate on the shot more as I'm not using muscle to keep things stretched (micro traxion pulley for progress capture). Tap the trigger and the bag's gone. Never had a hangup in years of using this setup. Kudos to Dan for his climbingarborist.com video. I should also say that I'm often slinging around 14 or 16 oz shot bags to get down thru spruce tangles so the pulley puts lots of energy into the setup - scary energy to me sometimes, with the poles bending into an arc.

(edit: Thanks BobBob - below - just checked and I too use my rig with the connector arms/pins on top - opposite side of the stretched out bits under tension, bag and throwline. Also my bigShot head has the hole for the connector pin drilled on the opposite side to the arms/ rubber bits if that helps anyone). If I remember, I think I got my trigger from Cabelas/ BassPro in their archery dept - cheap like borstch)

I never had to do it. I would spit lube it.
Those heads a pain to replace the rubber on?

Not particularly, soap mentioned earlier is good, I use liberal (as opposed to conservative) amounts of rubbing alcohol. The key is to not build twist into the tubing as you work it onto the horns. Also, you don’t need to drive the tubing all the way down to the “end”, 4” is fine, it will not come off no matter how much you load it up.

THe first time I replaced tubing on my BS I didn't get them even. That left me with 'windage' that I had to remember. It would pull to one side and down rather than follow a straight, smooth, arc. After learning it it wasn't any different that shooting a rifle.

TGhe next time I replaced tubing I used dots from a paint pencil to mark the length of overlap as well as keep the tubing straight. a longwise series of dots kept it straight. You might find an extrusion mark on the tubing to follow. Then dot the overlap. Generous, or follow Moss's liberal...hehehehe...dose of Dawn and on it goes. Shoots without 'windage'
