Big guys

Terrible writing from NY post but interesting story.
Seems crazy to me that any landscaper/tree service would “hop a fence” (as stated in the article) to cut trees that were clearly across the property line

I've seen fences within property lines. To keep animals in/out. Article wasn't clear about property lines, unless I read over that .....

“The tree cutters had climbed a fence clearly marking his property line”

Of course to be fair that’s just how they reported it. Should probably give them the benefit of the doubt that they were told the trees were on the property of the guy that hired them.

I take reports from the post with a grain of salt.
How do they know what the property line really is?

I’m more surprised that people wouldn’t expect a company to trespass and do such a thing. The trespassing homeowner could be so wealthy and lawyered up they’ll get no repercussions and bury the victim in legal fees.

Same shit happed in a place very dear to me for absolutely no reason and any legal fees are pennies to the guilty.

the future of that plot of forest is probably fucked. That biomass will likely never be replaced and set up for failure when the Ailanthus and Norway maple outcompetes the replacement trees.

And we all know the replacements will be shitty nursery stock that won’t be planted properly. Set up for failure the day they were grown.

I hate people sometimes. Why look at concrete when you can look at beautiful trees. Priorities of some people is so fucked.

I’m in a pessimistic mood and these beers aren’t helping.

If you're going to go over fences, it's incumbent on you to do some due diligence. 1 minute online with the property appraisers website, or a $30 per year membership in the Regrid app will tell you who owns the property you're on. Bozos too busy dreaming about dollar signs to consider the crack they were putting their asses into.

I’m glad I waited till the morning to mention this story… lol

Fancy mountaintop development, rich retired lawyer in his mid 80s is suing his neighbors for the right to cut down trees on their property. And folks, this guy has an insane view. Like, the trees are way way low. You can see the entire city of Asheville and the mountain range beyond already.

Fumed about that one for a while but I can’t see that ever succeeding.

Just such a waste of the courts time.

Reading that makes me chuckle a little. I've heard reports of neighbors wanting to sue landowners who do a timber harvest on their land because it ruined their view of the forest. So as a landowner I could get sued if I do cut my trees or sued if I don't....it's all about what my neighbor wants...and one neighbor probably want them cut while the other wants them to stay.

I feel it's pretty the contractor getting sued as well is pretty reasonable, if you're hoping over a fence to do the work it's not that hard to check onX or whatever property line/ownership app you use. OnX is great and pretty reasonable too plus a handy tax write off for your non work related adventures.

I’ve got onX, seems inaccurate, i look at my property line going through my neighbors cargo containers 20’ from the fence line and wonder who’s right here? Another neighbor who’s family once owned the entire area told me the corner marker was buried in the street. OnX shows the corner 40’ out into the cow pasture. Have you noticed any discrepancies like this?
