big crane @ work today

I thought you crane fans might like these photos. I don't really know all that much about cranes, so please forgive my ignorance if this is really no big deal...

This was set up at work today. One guy told me 500 ton crane? They were going to lift a 70 ton boiler into the generator building on the left.

I don't know much about Mammoet's fleet, but that looks like a Demag AC700 which is an 800 ton machine, but it could be smaller.

Are the outriggers out half span?

They don't look like it, they're an x-style design though.

Well according to their website it is a 500 metric tonne machine.

Whats the rig about 1/3 up the boom? That machine is a beast! 500 tons, huh? If you had somewhere to set the pic, that is a hole tree picker, easy! There's a 260 ton in town here (Greenville, SC) and I know that they have had the boom up over 300ft. I wonder what the stick is on that thing?

Its called a gantry, you see it more on conventional type cranes, but when your going to lift that much you gonna need more support for the boom.
