Beware of Schmidy's Machinery

Trueco out of NC has been good to me! I have bought a used chip dump and just purchased a used rear mount. Both trucks were cleaned and ready to work and no problems. Butch the owner returned calls promptly even on weekends and evenings. Bought my first bucket from Mickeys and when I showed up to get it the cab was a filthy mess, ran out of gas within a few miles and tranny went a weak later. Didn't have the decency to clean and fuel up? Now I'm at the point I can afford yo buy brand new and that's the way to go but took me a while to get there. Still bought the elevator used that's a big chunk new! Most guys I think just paint and ship them out the door! Look for personal sale or a small guy like Trueco who hand picks one or two trucks. My dump came from a utility company than mounted new southco dump and tailgate lift! Elevator came from personal contractor who had it for 4 years and wanted a new 4by4 elevator!

Just wanted to update on the purchase we made after our search.

We ended up purchasing the old Asplundh Chip Dump truck from Joes Auto Sales in Florida. The purchase was smooth and Billy sent us updates every step of the way with pictures on the progress. They tore apart the truck and inspected every piece, installed new brakes and put on new tires once it was put back together. We paid for the new paint job and the truck runs great, looks beautiful, passed DOT inspection and emissions when we got it. I had our mechanic look at it when it came and he was amazed at how thorough they were. Delivery from Florida to Colorado was reasonable as well. I would highly recommend them for any used trucks, dumps or forestry. They earned our business from here on out.

Thanks Billy!

Good to hear Billy. He's one of the closer dealers to me too. If I ever buy something from Joes, I'll remind him that I helped persuade you to purchase from him :)

@treehead32
I wanted to follow up with you on your purchase from Joes Auto Sales in Florida regarding your truck. I'm also in Colorado (Denver) and am looking to purchase a used Full Forestry Body 60 ft. chip/dump truck. It appears as though there are some good recommendations on here as well as a few outfits to steer clear of. It looks like your initial purchase was smooth. So my question is: after almost two years of owning the vehicle how has it performed? Any problems? Did you have to ask Joes to help with any warranty work etc.?
Any info. you could provide would be great. This is a huge purchase for me (I'm raiding one of my retirement accounts). And I can't afford to be scammed / ripped off or have expensive meachanical issues or devastating safety issues. To that end I'm doing my research so that I can stay ahead of the curve. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

That kind of repeat business really speaks for itself. Nice to hear about good guys. Maybe I got him at really bad times.

I called today and Billy answered the phone. We spoke for awhile, he was very helpful. He's supposed to send me some pics of a truck that i'm interested in. Thanks guys for the info.!!!

Add Tamerak and John Sleeper to the list.

They got me for a lame bucket, but I rebounded...have a proper XT 60/70 now.

Anyone else deal with Johnny Sleeper?

I just bought a 2011 Altec LRV57 on a 4x4 International 7400 from Schmidy's Machinery in Clinton Ill. from Jesse Schmidy. It broke down on the way home about 100 miles out. Jesse was very fair in handling this and had it towed to a great repair facility in Indy and it was fixed to my satisfaction and I drove it home to Cinci today. I am very happy with the whole transaction and everyone I dealt with from Enrique in service to Jessica in the office. I would recommend them to anyone and would not hesitate to buy another truck from them. Where else you gonna find a truck like this except Schmidy's? .....DSCF3540 (2).webp
