Best of 2010

what do you mean "won" this? do you mean they had a bet like this last year?

This race is for January and beyond MattyD! Contest just started, not talking history.

I said it has to be a 2010 picture to go along with Riggs post of the best 2010 pictures, but if you guys want other years too, that's fine with me if you only have "glory days".

First person to get on the magazine that says they are in the contest, gets the pot.

It's on.

I've NEVER been in the magazine, time to try to get in it, or actually do it right and get on the front cover. Cover of the magazine wins the $ only.

I wonder how long this contest will go on?

Reg is really good with his filming, I'm wondering if he will win?

Any chance people could just post their pics next to their text like the dutchman wouter did??! This viewing attachments is a total joke! I dont wanna have to click to open an attachment, nobody does except for the dorkiest weirdos known to treework! christ! half the time I dont even know its there, its like a fricken miniscule little piece of lettering on the page next to your IP address!!

I wanna see the pic right there when I open the thread. Its 2010 for god's sake! the idea that posting pics on the page is somehow gonna crash people's computer and bring down the Obama government is ridiculosious!! thats right! ridiculosious!!

yeah, but if they don't know what they are doing with sizing the picture, they screw up the whole thread on the width and I hate that.

maybe the forum needs a program that makes each and every picture the right size if posted on the page.

I do like the attachments because you can see them so much bigger and zoom in if I want to.

There was a best picture contest last year! No money involved or maybe not even a contest. No winners I guess! Cool pics tho! I remember your big a## Silver maple!

Wouter's misty poplars gets my vote. Awesome shot!

I've posted this before but it's still my fav from 2010. 10 cables in a big white elm.

There should be a maximum size limit on pics, that would solve any issues with oversized pics ruining a thread.

so, your telling me that you are not photo-shopped into that picture?

Why is the figure so different then the tree?

[/ QUOTE ]

The picture is original and the jump as well. Only problem with the picture was that is was really dark, allmost black. So it has been lightened up with a fotostyle programm. Thats why it looks like it has been photoshopped. But it is original and there are a lot off dutch climbers seeing me do that almost impossible jump. It was a jump free off rope (thats why the rope has slack) and when I reached the other branch the rope was again under tension because off the distance I've jumped over there.

so now you know.

wouter,

please dont take this the wrong way, but this picture makes you look like a dork, look at the state of you, your like some insane escaped office worker from the city desperately trying to fit in during a tree climbing competition. Its just plain weird man and I really dont think it has any place in this thread.

Okay then, thanks for the explanation.

It makes sense now, thanks.

Grover, that is a bit harsh, sounds like something Old Dirty, Hollenriech, Riggs or I would say.

Not a bad picture in my opinion, it's hard to get a perfect shot on an action picture.

Oke Grover, just one question comes in my mind. How can I NOT think this the wrong way

Sometimes it's better just to leave things instead off putting down a text you just did..

respect eachother is a great gift - disrespect is for people who are jalous ;-)

p.s. don't take this the wrong way

I say post all three pictures.

If they are good, lets see them.

I'll post two more later too.

I'll put them imbedded in the thread too, so that grover is happy.

Looking forward to more great pics from everyone.

C'mon Glen, lets have it!

Sorry wouter, was only having a laugh, just like you and the april fool's ascender.

This is my pic for 2010, summertime, pruning out deadwood on a Sequoia. Nearly all of my work is takedowns so this was a real pleasure. Was the best day of the year, we are standing on the road just checking out the best way up the tree. Big shotted a harrison rocket it into the canopy, ascenders, mostly silky work, great views from the top. Got more pics if anyone is interested.

Tulip removal. 4 or 5 blocks in the tree redirecting forces, just being extra carefull because the central top wasn't real thick diameter because tree was topped like 30 years earlier.

limb on the right will be notched and stood up. that particular limb wasn't heavy enough to need the second block, but others were.

2010.

me of course.

How tall is that tree grover ?

[/ QUOTE ]

Using a throwline from the tip down we got it at 130ft, its a great tree, unfortunately there are concerns about root distruption/damage when the houses were built.

Soil levels raised, trenches dug for foundations etc, it was a damn disgrace, these houses should never have been built near this tree. Personally I feel the tree may be in decline, but I hope not.
