Best laserpointer for treework?

My friend found some rave lasers that could also melt electrical tape when on straight beam they were 12 bucks but took 6 to 10 weeks to show up. He has since lost the link but it was amazon

Yea I'm just trying to cut through all the trial and error and see if someone has a reliable piece for use on estimates. My old Treestuff one has had some issues even though it worked great for awhile. There are just so many to choose from on ebay and amazon, but the water resistance and daytime use are most important features to me.

Same here. Too many choices, i have no idea what’s a good one. I didn’t really like the Sherrill one. Seemed pretty weak.

I have a red laser off ebay and use it to point out limbs for bids.
I plan to replace it with a green one.
The red sounds like it would make more sense but bright green is the way to go.
I bought this one...
650nm Red Laser Pointer
It's comes with a large rechargeable battery and has been dropped a couple of times and is holding up well.

This is also available in a dual color (red/green).

It is generally agreed that Green Lasers are the best for daylight use.

Unfortunately, hand-held lasers are now legally limited to 5 mW in the USA.
There were too many jerks pointing beams at airplanes, etc.

There are many fine high power, hand-held lasers, but they can't be shipped into the US.

Back when higher power lasers were allowed, the owner had to sign something that mandated they would be the only person to handle or use it. This may make it difficult to find a used one.

Seriously though, if it will light a match I think it will be pretty good. Looking forward to your review Mike. Try not to set your cat on fire

I have a hard time seeing $60 for a <1mW laser 5 mw are all over Ebay for $15 or lesser for under $10. I'm sure the $60 is better...but 6x better? or any less likely to be dropped, lost or stolen? I've bought an expensive one and a cheap one and neither lasted. I'd pay maybe $30 for a 5mw one that is built better that the $10 Ebay specials.

But, frankly I'm not so convinced they are a food sales tool. I've gone with and without, and think clients were more annoyed about me trying to point as opposed to them just trusting that I know what I am doing. I could see value in telling a ground helper "set the line right there"...but I usually set my own line while the help is getting the rest of the equipment ready... Not that they aren't useful...just not as useful as I envisioned a laser pointer being.

I have found the laser to be very helpful on estimates. I only use it on about 5-10% of my bids, but when i need it, it sure comes in handy. Start at trunk of tree and slowly move light where you are trying to explain work targets. Easy for customer to follow.

Heres the one my friend was buying. It could cut electrical tape and runs on rechargeable batteries. It actually worked better than my Treestuff pointer until i lost the straight beam filter

Know of any websites selling the stronger lasers that aren't terribly sketchy? I'd like to take a chance, but here's the sales pitch: "How do you feel like it? Just press the "Add to Cart" and then you will easily possess such an adorable appliance... Ideal helper for your work and life! Grasp the chance and take it home!"
