Best Eye2Eye for 1/2" XTC Fire & HC?

New to climbing, not to gear! Been collecting pieces of kit for almost 2 years prior to just recently purchasing a saddle and ready to get started low & slow...

For those who have run XTC & the Hitch Climber, what eye2eye & hitch configuration works best for DdRT setup regarding setting & releasing (i weigh 250 w/o any gear if that info helps any)? I need to stock more eye2eyes.

I currently have 8mm 24" beeline but was thinking maybe 10mm eye2eye would be better for 1/2" climb line. Ocean Poly? HRC? 24", 28", 30"? VT? Other hitch?

But that leaves the question of length.. And i'd assume sewn eyes over stitched, correct? All my gear is new so i should also expect break-in time also.

If it was up to me i would just purchase a bunch of different lengths and sizes but after throwing a bunch in the shopping cart, those things add up at $20-30 a pop! I'd rather buy a bunch i know i'll use.

Thanks in advance!

Weigh 270 w/o gear.... top trimmer weighs 240 w/o gear. Both run arb pro 9mm on xtc fire at work. Use 28" length tied in a michocan hitch. Runs flawless

Very much appreciated! I'm a TreeStuff guy, i assume it be found there?

EDIT: found it! I'll try a couple, Thanks!

28" length is nice for Michoacan, Knut, and Distel (short, low-sitback) with 9mm or 10mm cord. 30" better with VT (smooth as hell if you get it right, but long legs, more sitback).

I figured the longer length equal more sitback. That's what i'm trying to avoid i guess. A compact friction hitch that grabs well, low sitback & releases great. I've never played with Mechanicals but i'm sure i'll pick up one or two eventually. Thanks for the advice!

10mm beeline is great. Ocean poly in the same size works well too.

The beeline was one of ny first purchases cause thats all i read about. Now i see alot of Ocean Poly suggestions, maybe i do need to spend a couple hund $'s on a bunch of sewn eye2eye's so i have plenty to play with, but i keep thinkin if i find the perfect match i'd be able to spend money on other things. Either way, the buying will never end:sisi:

...the buying will never end...

Sounds like you've prepared yourself for the reality of tree climbing, whether work or play... the spending never stops. If the wife complains that you're spending more money than you're making, you've got to be mentally prepared to handle these issues with diplomacy and candor.

"You're absolutely right, honey. I've decided that we need to become a two-income family, again. You'll have to get a second job."

Never married here! Engaged once though, and you just gave me an idea! Pawn the ole engagement ring for new gear :rebotando:

I've become surprisingly relaxed about buying more though. At first i thought it'd be grab a pre-made kit and maybe upgrade after awhile but i started buying pieces here and there thinking i'd customize for an option of different climbing setups to play with and now i want 6 of everything!! And 6 back-ups. Haha!

My shopping cart & wishlist at TS is never ending. Making it my personal goal to "run out" of kit to buy. Ha! Thats not happening..

If you are using a hitch climber just tie your own eyes. I like the stitched eyes for using with a wrench but they just don't work that great with a hitch climber ddrt imo. The top hole in the pulley is almost un-usable with sewn eyes. I really like the 10mm ocean as the best all around cord on the 1/2" the beeline just works well with the xtc from my experience. For 11.7mm and smaller I like 8mm hrc. All with a 3/3 vt, I couldn't tell you what my cord length is I tie one and see how it works and adjust it until I like it.

I haven't put much thought into the tying idea, i guess that would make sense. Maybe find cordage i like then buy by the ft? I'd be worried about what length to cut it as knotting it up would use up length. I might order 5-10 feet of different mm's and try different knots then measure what lengths the knots take up.

Do you tie your own? If so, what added length do you consider to knot, if that makes sense..

EDIT: disregard that, i read the bottom of your post again, sorry

The most you'll need Climber429 is 36", no sense buying enough for one setup and have 2' of unusable cord. As Casey mentioned, depending on your weight and what number of wraps that will allow you to ascend w/o binding, and the 7-8" for the knot on the dogbone. I'm not a huge Beeline fan, but a lot of others swear by it. Best of luck & climb safe.

Thanks for the info! I'm not opposed to trying different hitch cordage and friction hitches. Hence the thread, i'll probably buy most if not all the suggested cordage over time & see what seems to work the best.

Thanks! ~C

I just spliced a 28" e2e in 9.3mm epi. I weigh 235 without gear it works great on everything i have so far. With my weight the 8mm tightens up to much. Also it works great with a michoa

I figured i'd try the 8mm beeline but thought my weight would bind it after some research. I could always use it on a couple custom lanyards if it doesn't fly well on main climb line. I appreciate the suggestions. Def gonna try the Michoa & other suggested friction hitches.

Thanks!

Just buy 10' or something and see what length you need to tie the hitches you want and then order accordingly next time. The waste will only happen once that way. I know for me the only hitch I have ever liked DDRT is the vt despite all the horror stories it's actually the only hitch that has been truly reliable and repeatable for me. SRT with a wrench is a different story though.
