Best electric rope cutter?

Craftsman makes good anvil type cutting shears that utalize a razor for the cutter. I use that and a propane torch for melting the ends. Works for me! I suppose the type you are looking for works good because it cuts and melts in one step... Think i will stick with my craftsman.

The only one that I have EVER seen is the brown box with the heating element up top. The next cheaper is a pistol grip soldering gun with the wide cutting element.

What happened to yours?

Occasionally I have to take the element off and wire brush all of the contact surfaces. They oxidize and then the heat transfer isn't as good.

I wonder if you could go to Graingers, McMaster or even Radio Shack and get another transformer to replace the in the cutter.

it was knocked on the floor, cutter broke off.

pearson industries makes a nice looking unit, any of you use one?

I don't like the narrow band of melting that you get using a rope cutter. I melt the last half inch or so and make a nice tip using an old soldering iron. It takes maybe five minutes per tip.

PS. Is the embeded image function not functioning?

Nice work Treeco.

All my climbing lines have leather cambium savers on them, and because I like using lighter lines even in taller trees to achive multiple tie in points to position myself, it is very reassuring to have a rope termination that can't go through my monkey fist. I like a more pear shaped termination with wraps of duct tape above sufficient to yank the CS from it's crotch.

Peace of mind at 100 feet is nice.

I know you don't depend on your rope terminations not going through your fist like I do, without tying a knot first I'm sure.

I guess everyone's heard about the guy that broke his back using a short rope in a tall tree.

I think there may be a potential market in quick secure rope termination kits using epoxy and kevlar threading for use in the field.

Again, point missed. Hes not looking to tip the ends. Hes looking to cut bulk rope as he is a supplier. An electric cutter is fast and efficient for cutting pieces off of spools.

I realize that Jim. I posted for others who are interested in seeing rope melts that are better than what the rope cutters do.

I guess you said you already ordered some cutters but i thought i would throw this your way anyway. Was going to through one of my catalogs last night and saw these from CMC rescue.
