Best Cities for Tree Work

Hello,

I have a year and a half of experience as a ground worker for a reputable company in Madison, WI. I stumbled into tree work by accident and ended up really enjoying the hard work and difficulty of it. There is a great variety of trees in Madison as well as a good market for tree work. The company I worked for used a Palfinger crane for removals and pruning. I am now looking to move to another part of the country (preferably west). My question is, are there any cities that are affordable to live in but have a good market for tree work with quality companies? I am also looking to get some experience climbing and am not really interested in working out of a bucket truck.

Any information helps,

Thank you,

-Kyle

There is an infrequent Buzz poster who is an excellent pruner in that area. He says his ilk are a dime a dozen there. Stay home!

Kyle-

Portland has a huge number of tree service companies to work for. Lots of companies that do climbing rather than bucket work. Affordable? Not many west coast cities are these days. If you want to check out the scene in portland and get connected with some of my favorite companies let me know.

Welcome!

If you want to find connections through TB, you will do well to elaborate on your skills, experience, training, desired areas to work.

I work year-round. I'm going to post an ad for hiring for the latter part of the summer. I've got work July 26th through Aug 8th in between two 3-week vacations, and will be back working full time after Aug 30th.

I'm 100 miles north of Portland, if you're out exploring the PNW.

Lots of cottage country waterfront work, and a fair bit of put on ground only work. For example, I pruned 7 maples in 8 hours today, solo, homeowner clean-up, and do (make a mess and leave it rot) greenbelt work for an HOA.
