Best battery-powered top handle chainsaw

Hey guys, I have also been thinking about a battery top handle saw. Anyone else got one in the last few months? Anyone use anything besides the Husky?

I really like my 536 li xp. It definitely has its limitations but, if you know what they are, it will quickly become one of your favourite tools in your "tool box." It is lighter then my t540, a battery lasts a full prune or for taking piecing down a top and it is a dream to use while spiking a conifer. Just means I have to call for the 550 a couple of cuts sooner...there is definitely a learning curve to cutting with it and I swapped out my 12 inch bar for a 14. Bailey's had a good deal on woodland pro bar and chains...my advice pull the trigger. You will find your t540 in the truck or on tree bay

I replaced my battery saw with a Stihl 150. And I haven’t looked back. Lighter, better power, finer cut and easier to make better cuts (carving bar and 1/4” chain). Now the 536 collects dust, except for the once a year we are working inside the convention center.

Oh and all in all it’s cheaper to buy the 150!

I must admit I am intrigued by the 150 and by all accounts they take really well to a basic muffler mod. However, I am already invested in the battery technology so a new 150 will still cost me 600 plus. As for the husky I still like the no pull start, no noise, awesome brush cutting abilities, etc. I also must admit a piece of me missing the sweet smell of the 2 stroke.

Think it is a non top handle but I just saw a youtube vid of a 2018 Milwaukee M18 Fuel chainsaw go through 10/12 inch wood at a pretty good clip.
Looks like it is $400 for saw, battery and charger. $160 for another battery. If that were available as a top handle, I think I'd be all over it.

I have been looking for a "deal" on the Husky, but haven't found one I could jump on. I thought it was there a month ago, but the pieces didn't fit. Husqvarna was offering a free extra battery as their spring promotion. I thought I could get the ISA discount from TreeStuff. I also had a 10% rebate from Husqvarna after attending a workshop they sponsored. The free battery wasn't eligible through TreeStuff (I think it was just through local dealers) and Husqvarna isn't eligible for the ISA discount so it was all too much to justify when I have 2 good gas top handle saws. If I needed to buy a new one today, I'd probably do the 536XPLi... but I don't so I haven't.

Ask your local dealer about the husqvarna’s fleet program. I seem to remember I got 3 units at 10% off and 10% off qualifying purchases for the rest of the year. And 5 was even better. Our local dealer also has the option to offer fleet pricing on 1 unit twice a year.

Seems to be a newer version

I can't comment on any of the chainsaws. I do own one of the Makita EA7900PRZ1 saws but haven't used it yet. I got it with the free brushless grinder for 20% off and couldn't pass it up even thought I didn't need it right away. I should've spent a lot more money that day but that's for a different thread.

If you do look into the Makita saws I think you'd need the 14" brushless saw, not the 12" top-handled brushed saw. As I understand it the top-handled saw is not appropriate for ground work.

Mine is the 14" brushless saw. One other poster here has it at least. Maybe track him down and see if he has an update. Probably in the Makita Addiction thread.

In case you're not aware, the Makita X2 system uses two of their 18V batteries in series for a total of 36V.

Shifting gears, I do a lot of trail cleanup in our national forest and I'm really drooling over the Milwaukee M18 Fuel Hackzall. I have cut limbs up to 4" with my weak Bosch 12V single-handed reciprocating saw and I know the M18 Fuel would be much better. I could carry that in my pack with both pruning and metal blades and cut up nearly anything I came across. I think you'd find it a lot more useful over your standard Porter Cable reciprocating saw.
