What's out there guys? And what will be coming out soon? My superficial impression is that husky has one, stihl doesn't. Anything else I should know?

Personally I would try one before you buy one if possible. I thought I would like one until I tried it. The Husky worked great and had plenty of power for it's intended use. Stihl is probably the same as my issue but I have never seen one yet.

I don't actually like not having to pull start it or hearing the sound as it sat on my harness. I was always questioning what state it was in. I finally just always turned it off so that I was sure it couldn't be running if I bumped the trigger. Just saying for me it was a mental thing I could not deal with.

Never thought of that... appreciate you sharing that.

This was and is my biggest problem with my battery powered Husky. You can unintentionally leave the saw on and hang it on the harness. Sure the chain brake locks out the electronics so the trigger can’t launch the chain, but it’s still unnerving that the saw can still be live... with no noise!
Overall for what the saw is it works great. It is NOT a removal saw. The 1 or 2 6-8” cuts is ok but more than that begins to push the limit of the battery. Overall I don’t think it competes with the tuned 150 that frequents my job sites in weight, and power. And the tank of fuel last longer than the battery when cutting 3-5” branches. But with the cash outlay for it, I will continue to use it until I decide to grab a 150.

Making it sound light weight... Maybe I'll wait for gen 2...

Echo is coming out with a line of battery stuff this spring according to a sales rep I talked to. Should include a top handle battery saw

When I saw this video:

I thought of this post, lol.

"Remove the spark arrestor." they said. "It'll hot rod your saw and make it run better." they said.

@cerviarborist

There's definitely a hot rod in the video, lol. What a nightmare though.

Good to know about spark arrestors. Seems like this could happen with just a hot muffler, you think? Treemender (Aussie guy - don't know his real name), on IG notes that he waters palms like these prior to climbing them, as standard operating procedure.

I learned as a kid in scouts, that the fuzz between the leaf bases of cabbage palms makes very effective tinder for starting fires, even when wet. If the climbers chain was dull, or the bar bent or even if the log being cut sat down on the bar pinching it a bit, friction may have caused sufficient heat to get that stuff burning.

I have the husky one. I really like it for pruning. Mine seems as powerful as my buddy's stihl 192. It doesn't complete replace a gas powered climbing saw but its another good tool to have in your toolbox. It's really nice to not have to pull start a saw in those sketchy positions you end up in while spikeless climbing.

Ohh, my batts are all the higher amper hour that was available a year ago or so. 4Ah?

Think I heard there is a batt coming out with 20% more energy storage.

I demoed the Husqy power pruner and climbing saw this summer. The rep mentioned that they be releasing a new battery spring 2018. I liked the climbing saw on the ground quite a bit. It's nice for leaving by the chipper or trailer for slashing brush. I didn't have much use for it up in the tree. As mentioned it just doesn't have the balls to cut through wood. We'll see what the new battery brings to the table...

The power pruner was awesome! Decent power to weight ratio. Long AF. Best of all it doesn't melt your shirt when you run one all day long. I'll be picking one up in the spring.

Quick charge time on these suckers too. You'll need two batteries to do any sort of production work. Complete bullshit that you have to buy the unit, battery and charger seperately though. You'd think they'd offer a package...
