Last month I helped some guys from a tv show about beer makers who travel about making beer with local ingredients with local micro breweries. They wanted to make a pine nut beer and asked if I would help them get some pine nuts via climbing some big tree with the hosts.
Well it being hollywood they didn't mind that the trees that most of our local pine nuts come from are pinion and they ripen in the fall.
So I helped them pick a location- one of my client's property with some jumbo Pondo's and get ready to take a couple of guys climbing. We had about ten minutes to train the guys before taking the bucket up the first sixty feet or so. Then we had to act like we were picking these cones that they brought with them .. I was basically trying to manage these guys dry systems so nobody got hurt but it was pretty nerve wracking. Even though the system works as smooth as silk it takes some practice as you well know. The episode is scheduled to run around July- I don't have tv so I don't know if I 'll be watching.
My buddy from Denver came down to be a back up in case my wife went into labour. He had a good point at the end of the day which was that any time somebody asks him to do something other than tree work double the price. It was sort of fun in a way but the hassles outweighed and I will definitely be more discriminating when it comes to taking gigs like this. Oh and the beer pooch? I think I signed something that said I would use their name of their show on social media so….
