Reg,
This may seem like a foolish question but that won't stop me from asking. In this vid and I think some others you have made the brush around your tie in spot has been removed. How do you do this? Hand bomb, butt hitch small pieces with the crane, just cut them? Just seems like it makes everyones life a little easier.
I thought of this a couple a days ago while doing a crane removal....just remembered now.
Thanks

All or either, whatever’s easiest.
What I appreciate most about crane work is the freedom that it affords a climber i.e. climb to the target – attach slings – cut….what could be simpler! It’s certainly a refreshing change from gear-intensive conventional rigging.
Stripping out a central lead can sometimes take a few minutes if it requires me to cut small and throw it down somewhere…. so I’ll look for a good size lift that’ll keep everyone busy so to buy me some time to deal with it.
I was interested to read Royce’s rope-bag thread and can appreciate the thinking where if a tree is too dangerous to climb out and attach the slings, then riding the crane to the attachment points, an/or using a bucket is the only way to go….but other than that, the idea of waiting idly to be lifted around different parts of a tree is not something I could ever justify, well, maybe when I get to about 80.
So yes, a central de-snagged lead allows for not only independent but also the easiest and quickest access to all your targets. Fundamental stuff at its very roots. Thanks
