be aware off your handsaws.

Thanks for posting! Very good reminder of how sharp our tools are and how easily we could take a fall.

I am A little reluctant to share my story of handsaw carelessness, but I will take one for the team:

Have been trying to climb glove-less to toughen up my hands, and got a little carried away with my Silky Sugoi on a ponderosa pine deadwooding job. Just a good reminder to slow down and be a little more cautious. Not too bad of a cut, but painful because it pierced my knuckle, and every time I would bend it for the next 24 hours, joint fluid would come out. It was sore for 2 weeks. Be Careful

Good demo. My handsaw has given me some close calls to my tree motion. It’s those quick pulls you should be cautious of.

I learned when a branch broke under me and I was stuck hanging from my lanyard. Had the high TIP back up so I cut the prussic on a 2in1. Didn't have to try anywhere near as hard as the video. Barely touched it.

Thanks for the video link!

A manager from Bartlett's once told me they have more WC claim's from handsaw injuries than everything else combined.

My Sugoi caught me on a bad follow through and cut me right down to the bone in my wrist a few years ago. You know its bad when you see that dark, purple colored blood.

Seven stitches, antibiotics (to fight off bone infection) and a nick to one of the tendons. Wrist was sore for a few months from the tendon. Worse thing is, just before the injury happened and I mean like one second before, I was thinking that I have to be real careful with this follow through cut.

I really should have been using one of my nylon loop runner slings to hold up the branch and keep my wrist out of the saw path. Thank goodness that I didn’t hit an artery. Totally preventable.

That is why I am also starting to tie in with my lanyard too when using my handsaw close to my climbing line. These tri-teeth saws are just too sharp. Sometimes it’s not just a chainsaw that you need two tie in points for.

My sugoi will rip ya a new one, have tapped my knee twice on a follow thru; they cut that damn fast!

and I double tie-in when using mine now too, just too much of a risk man

I nicked myself in the knee with my sugoi once. Luckily I had on a pair of tactical pants on and with the double knee I was safe. I get them at the local Army and Navy for $40 bucks. Good vid but who shelled out the money for those bridges you cut?

Hahaha! Good solution. I've cut myself so many times with my handsaw. I remember one time I didn't even realize it had broke the skin on my knee until I got out of the tree and had a blood stain the size of a softball on my pants. Those suckers are scary sharp.

Polesaw blades too are unforgiving...I had two jameson poles with a fanno hook tip get bumped off a branch with my knee while spiking up a tree. 12 foot of poles came down and ripped through my double-front carhart pants and through my thigh down to the muscle fascia. 7 stitches later and a nice scar for a reminder, I'm sure to hang those poles away from me for now on. I'm never hasty about where I hang them now!!! Also, hindsight tells me that the blade must have missed my flipline by inches on the way down, I was climbing up to my TIP, 2 points of attachment always now, never know when things will happen...That day was a serious wake-up call for me. Be safe.

I guess I'm not the only one with a scar on my left hand. Gloves didn't help me much.

A real eye-opener. So that's how fast one could cut right through their loaded climbing line too?

Welcome to the Buzz Tim.

A good thought on PPE, its not to prevent you from getting injured, its the last line of defense to reduce the severity of injury. I'll bet the gloves didn't help much, been there, but I'll bet they helped some.

You can slice right through a loaded climbline. Some videos have been put up previously.
