barter for crane use?

So I was cutting some lawns today in my neighborhood to help out a friend. I ran into a neighbor who I know did something with cranes. We start talking, he wants a price for me to do his lawn and all the yearly maintenance. We start talking about cranes, he has access to roughly 40 or 50 of various types and sizes between the company he runs, and his father in-law's company. I am wondering, is crane time something that should / could be bartered for? Or is it better to have a reciept / money transfer take place?

Charge your customers for the crane and charge him for your service.
It's a win/win for you.

of course, charge both parties and keep him in the pocket for when you really need him.. if it is some rich person go ahead and pay him , save the bartered one so you can discount some poor old widow or retiree
