Bar sizes

Does the 201 bar fit a 193?

Or do you need to change anything out?
I would love to get away from the micro chains. Or what is your opinion on the nenefits of the micro chain?

Bigger chains eat more wood/ cut. Smaller chains cut less. You're going to effectively lose power.

Smaller chain, smoother cut.

Smaller chain, lighter chain.

Smaller chain, cheaper chain.

Why do you want to get away from small chain?

I also have a 2215 and it takes the larger chain. So I wanted to put the bar from the 193 onto the 2215 and then get one of the Monkey beaver bars that they sell for the 201 and put it on the 193.

Also, side note. Is there really any justification for the 201? I feel that if I am cutting anything too big for my climbing saws, then I would rather switch to my 250 which is half the cost and a much more versatile saw..

You can do a ton with a sharp 193t, and a bit more time. Way lighter.

I use my 193t as much as possibly, in mostly softer local wood. I have the 200T for when it's needed. Way more wrist strain.

IF you need to power through cuts for timing, the extra power helps, at times.

More HP means faster cutting.

Eventually, you'll get a bigger climbing saw, most likely. Could be next week, or three years. Figure out what you won't be buying if you spend all that money on a 201T. Think how much faster you'll be able to cut with a 201T. Weight the factors. Decision is situationally dependent.

Buying bigger rigging gear might mean less cutting with a smaller top-handle because you can rig bigger pieces.

Buying pruning books might make the 193t more effective, if you're going for more pruning, less removals.

Don't know how a wider kerf affects cutting palms.

I like the 50 gauge over the 43 that comes on the 193 and 170 saws. I really prefer chisel tooth over semi chisel and, to my knowledge and what my dealer told me, they don’t make chisel tooth in 43. I do not think you will like putting a 50 gauge on your 193. I think you will find that’s too much chain for too little saw.
I do more removals than trimmings, even though I love trimming. Either way the 201 is 110% justifiable. Even on paper, the 201 is nearly 2x the power.
I bought a 193 and ended up with a 201 after I ran one for a half a day contract climbing. I pitched the 193 in the garage and then sold it. Hated the primer bulb, hated the plastic dogs, hated the small chain, hated the choke and then half choke. It’s very lazy in power and rip compared to my 201tc-m, the throttle response is fantastic on the 201. 201 pulls the 16” bar dogged in and buried in oaks, the 193 wouldn’t pull the 14” bar buried in soft wood. Both are 100% stock. Don’t get me wrong, the 193 will put food on the table and pay the bills, but if you ever get the chance to run a 201, expect to be dropping $$ at your local dealer. I carry my silky and my 201 into every tree, my 193 sits at home as a back up or very occasionally rides out for poplar or other very small soft wood trims

Just bought a 201 yesterday, dont own a smaller top handle saw... It wasn't an impulse purchase, I looked at my needs and goals and realized right away a 193 would be throwing a couple hundred bucks away.

My mod'd 193 rips pretty nice, it's no 201 but the throttle response is perfect and it runs hard for what it is. I wouldn't put a 201 bar/chain on it. Off the shelf the 193 is crap, you will fall asleep waiting for the RPM's to kick in when you squeeze the trigger.

I have always wondered about moding out my saws. What can you get done to them and where do you get the stuff to do it?

Remove limiters on carb adjusters and cut open muffler. advance timing if you're better than i at small engines. Vids all over youtube and here if you search. Basic tools are all thats needed. My 192 spritzed up but i blew it up. My fault to be honest

I have a 16" .050 gauge bar on my 192. Works just fine. Pulled the screen out of the muffler and picked up some rpm's. 192 is fine for my needs but then again it is not in a daily use situation.

I have an older Echo top handle I grabbed for $50. It sits as an emergency back up or a saw I can take to camp for making kindling. If it got stolen I won't miss it. Years ago those were what I climbed with. Light, cheap, and disposable. I have a 192 0r 193, (don't recall). It sits and is now my main back up. I then bought a 201tc and don't leave without it when I'm doing tree work. It screams right out of the box. Not long after that I picked up a 200 here on tree bay. Saw is in great shape.
I put a couple caps full of fuel in her to hear it bark. Ran it dry and I let it sit. I know what it can do. I doubt I'll ever need to buy another top handle again.

"Need" rarely dictates what I buy. Lol. It did once. I needed a saw on a Sunday... And that leads to the one I'm bragging on now.
I've been playing with an echo CS-400. 10cc bigger than the 193, comes with an 18" bar, and I honestly like the rear handle for some stuff. It's gotten the muffler gutted and I got a 10" bar for crape myrtles and light duty stuff. I am almost convinced to switch over to echo for my next saw, too. This cheap little homeowner grade saw has been very reliable for two years and has some oomph.

Ditto on "consumer" saws sometimes - we have a little Husky 455Rancher we picked up at Canadian Tire on sale one year - use it for trail work, a dirt saw, stump saw, sometimes put a LogWizard on it - we abuse the crap outa the thing really (rocks and dirt - a new experimental lubricant?) and it just keeps going . . . what's up with that? I must say, I've been impressed with it. It does look a little unloved by now but the teeth still keep going round and that's what counts. Buy another? You bet. Too funny.
