Bank Bailout

This is the clearest explanation I have read of this:

Once upon a time a man appeared in a village and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for £ 10 each.

The villagers, knowing there were many monkeys, went to the forest and started catching them. The man bought thousands at £ 10 and, as supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort.

He then announced that he would buy monkeys at £ 20 each. This renewed the villagers efforts and they started catching monkeys again.

Soon the supply diminished and people started going back to their farms. The offer increased to £ 25 each and the supply of monkeys became so scarce it was an effort to even find a monkey, let alone catch it!

The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at £ 50 each! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would buy on his behalf.

The assistant told the villagers, "Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that my boss has already collected. I will sell them to you at £ 35 and when my boss returns, you can sell them to him for £ 50."
The villagers rounded up all their savings and bought all the monkeys for £700 billion.

They never saw the man or his assistant again, only lots and lots of monkeys!

Now you have a better understanding of how the Bank BAILOUT PLAN WORKS !!!

A bank is like a "friend" who lends you an umbrella on a sunny day and wants it back when it rains

They're down to miserable approval in the polls, just about silenced in the halls of governance, and are responsible for the mess we're in yet they continue to apologize to the drug-addicted blowhards and say NO to any attempts to fix their messes.

Just never let them at the controls again, they'll slowly dry-up and blow away.

I was referring to this ^^ crap...

OK, no offence taken. Seems to me the description is pretty accurate except from the conclusion. The bank crisis is a product of fundamentalistic belief in the market and the regard of regulations as an unessesary evil. This process seems to have nurished greed among the owners and executives in the financial sector, a greed that have promoted short cuts and thinking like "after us comes the great flood". Well, no we experience the great flood and all the wise guys that worshipped the market now cries for help - from the previously so contempted government. So what to do? Can the ones still believing in the market as a natural law enlighten the rest of us with som advice AND the consequences if their advice is being followed.

One things for sure republicans these days are a far cry from Dwight D Eisenhower and Teddy Roosevelt, two republicans that I have tremendous respect for to this day because they both put the country's best interests before their political party.
