This is a lightening damage Fir I did. I did alot wrong here. 1 hand, didnt wrap thumb(I pay more attention to this through + criticism from here), too small a saw, didnt strap tree together. Hard hat did its job, although as youll see the chin strap wasnt connected.. Its an ugly video...We can all make mistakes.

Wow! That was all the crane operators fault, WAY TOO MUCH TENSION and side pull. Evidently, he wasn't over his load.
But YOU were cutting too slow, also. That didn't help matters none.

Cool.

The crane had a little too much tension but the main problem was the trunk was split from the lightening. Definately not centered over load either.

Allmark,

I have to say thanks for steping up.

I have to admit that I jumped a bit when I saw that thing take off.

Honestly,
I wouldnt mention a thing about your "thumb" on that one. In fact it makes me laugh just to think of a small error like that in light of what happened.

So did I see a spark from a 220 house line getting hit?

Barber chaired would be if you were cutting(say notching and dropping) a heavy leaner in the direction you were felling it. If you didnt cut enough of the hinge before it started falling the trunk would split and leave a tall tear. This is just one example I hope I explained it well. Maybe someone could draw it.

It's when the tree doesn't bend at the hinge....but bust and hinges higher up the tree thrusting a splinter of the trunk backwards towards the back cut. It has killed many a cutter.

holy cow!!! i bet that was a 10.5 on the pucker factor !!!!
Usally I put a face cut on the oppisite side of the choker ( where it is choked off ) then i start my cut on the same side the choker is on. this allows the crane to lift the wood away in the direction i am cutting which is usally away from me !!!! Glad to see you made out ok!!!!

Glad you lived to tell the tale after that on allmark. I couldn't tell how far the crane was reaching but I think with more weight in the butt-end that couldn't have happened. And even if the balance was right, you shouldn't be using one of those little sh-tty saws for that cut, they've not the speed nor size if the crane man has applied too much tension or is in the wrong position and the load goes to soon.
Thanks for posting though, thats a good reminder to us all to absolutely think these things through properly. Take care.

[/ QUOTE ]Yes:(
NB: It wasnt ablind pic.
cc: I couldnt take a bigger piese due to weight and tree structure.
I just want to stress there wasnt much error on the crane operator. The piece appeared to jump wheb the one side split and caused the attatched piece to be off balance not too much pressure. I was in a rush and didnt pay attention to my origional gut feeling and assesment of the trunk.
Great comments all!

Oh, it was Friday afternoon when I was supposed to be on the road for 4th of July trip. Not an excuse but a factor I should not have let effect my judgement.
