For tent caterpillars I just knock the webs loose, and leave the client a long stick to do the same. Hard to justify nuking the tree system for a cosmetic problem in most landscapes.

Tent cats do mass damage in my area and the defoliation and subsequent refoliation uses significant carb storage. But I agree, when it gets dark they all come back into their tents/webs and they can be eliminated at that time if in reach. Not possible in a 70' choke cherry tho.
