Awesome New DVD\'s From Gerald Beranek!

I just received three new dvds from Jerry. They are called "Throwline," "Spurs & SRT," and "Climbline." They were most interesting to watch, to say the least. Jerry took the time to explain everything and demo all the gizmos and gadgets associated with tree climbing. I never actually understood how the throwline boomerang thing worked, but Jerry gave a good demo and explaination. You even get to see Jerry throw a tantrum, lol!
I'd rather have Jerry's training DVD's anytime over those overpriced ArborMaster videos anyday! Keep them coming, Jerry!

And where did you get that big lead ball? :D

there really wasn't any need for that now was there? You dont need to do the hard sell for Jerry's vids, they speak for themselves. I've met Rip Tompkins and he seemed like a decent person who wouldn't be the least bit interested in selling 'overpriced' videos.

Anyway........look forward to seeing Jerry's new vids.

Re: Awesome New DVD\'s From Gerald Beranek!

The DVD's come as a set called, "Working Climber", DVD Series One, Access and movement Through the Tree.

Disk 1, The Throwline. 1 hour long, if you can believe it. How in the world can there be one hour of heaving a weight and line over a limb? Well, it's there.

Disk 2, has three titles, "Entering the tree" 36 minutes. It goes into old and new school double line techniques. From knots to gadgets to foot locking. "Spur and Flipline Climbing" 33 minutes. It begins with climbing pecker poles and ends with a 14 foot dbh by my friend Erick Schats. In between that the fliplines, safeties, spurs, and techniques are discussed. And then, "SRT", 32 minutes. The tools and techniques used in SRT climbing and descending systems. A lot of nice trees in that one. More of a showy title. But accurate as I could make it.

Disk 3, "Using The Climbline" 1 hour and 25 minutes. Aspects and methods of movement through the tree, vertical and horizontal. A lot of rope tricks for getting around. And how to throw a hissy fit when you get your lines stuck. Ha!

Over 4 hours of narrative. The script was over 200 pages. Just something to do since I've been laid off.

Bailey's will be listing the DVD set in their Xmas catalog which comes out in October. The price of $79.95 is a bit steep for an accomplished climber, who most already know what they need in order to get by safely, but less expensive than other competitive DVD sets a beginner may spend their money on. And that's where it's directed.

Following up next year will be "Working Climber" Series 2, Cutting and Rigging the Tree. Probably be a 3 disk set also. Already started working on it. As far as image and video files go.

Will be at least 5 or 6 weeks before the first set is even available to the public. The packaging and production is still underway.

When it comes available I'll be sure to let you know.

Awesome!! Please let us know when it's available!!! I've been looking for something like this for some time!!! The Arbor Master videos are a tad short for my liking!! Can't wait for the Working Climber Series 2!!

Re: Awesome New DVD\'s From Gerald Beranek!

I just watched the throwline video (thanks Gerry!).
I have been climbing over 20 years, and a great part of that has been associated with some of the best climbers in the world, as well as being exposed to the latest climbing saddles, gear and tools.

So that qualifies me to be critical.

Well, after watching the throwline video, I learned alot! Gerry goes over each technique/method very carefully. Everything is explained clearly, so even the complete novice will go away with a clear understanding of the entire world of throwlines, methods of throwing the throwbag, and a very complete review of all the different tools used. Even a complete section on the different throwline types. Spectra, Zing-it, fishing line, you name it, it is covered. Also different throwline storage containers.

If a complete novice watches and studies and learns from these videos, I would have a hard time determining their skill level just from talking to them. I would have to test them under field conditions!

This series promises to be very essential tool for any working climber's education.
I only wish I had a resource like this when I was starting out. But I am ALOT more educated after watching this. (Never even saw some of the tools used to throw a throwline before this)
Thanks again, Gerry

Re: Awesome New DVD\'s From Gerald Beranek!

For the record the "arbormaster videos" are ISA training videos produced in cooperation with AMT.

Maybe ISA will work with other training companies in the future .....

I too can't wait to purchase the dvd's.

Like alot of you, I feel that you can never learn too much, and I'm always searching for new things.

Jerry's dvd's have always been the best out there, second to none, and now that he's starting to put out educational one's as well makes it all the better for us (both experienced and novice).

These dvd's as well as Jerry's Fundamentals book will help ALL!

Thanks Jerry!
