Avon Walk

About two years ago (summer 2006) my wife’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. After undergoing a lumpectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy the cancer is now in remission and she is doing well.

This summer (July, 2008), in order to help raise money to combat breast cancer, my wife, her sister, and their mother (who had breast cancer) are all going to participate in the San Francisco Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. Participants can walk up to 26.2 miles the first day and 13.1 miles the second day. To prepare for this my wife has been training by walking several times a week for a total of 10-25 plus miles per week.

If anyone wishes to contribute to my wife’s walk, information can be found at:

The Avon Foundation’s main website states:

The Avon Foundation places a priority on returning funds to the geographic area in which each Avon Walk takes place with a special emphasis on reaching low-income, elderly and minority individuals and those with inadequate health insurance.

There are currently nine scheduled Avon Walks across the country for 2008 and 2009. For information on, or to contribution to, the Avon Foundation itself or other Avon Walks go to:

Any amount contributed to any of the Walks is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Breast Walk

Since I first posted, this thread attracted a lame 37 views. My bad. The title ‘Avon Walk’ was pretty uninteresting so I decided to change the title. In a previous thread, kage had noted:

...who can resist a conversation about boobs?

and Kathy Holzer had added:

Hence the new title. I don't expect a lot of conversation, but hopefully some folks will look at the link to the Avon Foundation.

Re: Breast Walk

I had to look, does that make me a bad person?

Good luck to the ladies on their walk!

Re: Breast Walk

Actually "Avon Walk" reeled me in!

I met up with an old friend back in MA over the weekend who works the Avon Walk there. This was her second year I believe she said. I told her I would head up north next year to help out.

It was actually a very timely conversation as I had just had a needle biopsy done on two lesions found through self examination. Very important practice, that! Thankfully...like you can't even imagine...they are both benign.

I will check out the site and see if there's anything in FL coming up. Good luck and Major Kudos to your wife Mahk!!
