ATTN: all companies looking for Climbers/ Workers

Re: ATTN: all companies looking for Climbers/ Wor

Well, it seems as though this is all the replies I am going to get. I honestly expected more. I find this post and question to be very interesting. Its also important to me.

I appreciate all the replies. And please, if anyone else wants to add to the question posted, do so...

Thanks,

Wow, how did I miss this!

We run very similar operations. I have a 50 ft spider that will fit through the front door of your house. I charge $125 per hr. when I sub.
$150 per hr. when I work for Joe Homeowner.
Time starts when I leave my yard and ends when I get the lift put away on the trailer.(one way drive time)

I know a guy in my area that just bought a 76 ft spiderlift, he 's trying to get $250 per hr. not sure how that's been working out for him.

Bing,

I climbed twice so far this year. The lift works great on removals. Works really well on pruning if you work in tandem with a good climber. He works the inside and I work the ends.
I think I might need to go on a diet though.

Jim454,

Thanks for the reply. I was wondering why you do not reply to this post earlier.

Is your 50' lift a "Teupen LEO 15GT", if so, did you buy it through Teupen America...? Have you had any problems with your lift...?

I looked at the Omme lifts, and I feel the Teupens are built with more options and better maneuvering capabilities.

Thanks,
PTC

Nice!

I like that MLE is a USA based company. I will look more into there products.

What kind of problems did you have with your 15GT...? Did you buy your lift used or new...?

Thanks,

PTC

Re: ATTN: all companies looking for Climbers/ Wor

Based on my experience which doesn't include a lift or CDL

$250 a day for straight contract climbing, $500 plus per diem for emergency or FEMA work. That's on residential/commercial properties, I have no idea about clearance or veg management.

At that rate, a service or landscaper can make money on the average contract climber and will call you back. Much above that they hesitate and only call you for nightmare jobs.

Other than the Bartlet types, companies around here won't pay a nickel extra for the certs but won't even talk to you without insurance.

Re: ATTN: all companies looking for Climbers/ Wor

I guy that I subbed for a company I use to do work for was getting 100 per hr. for a 68' iltalumec R21 that fit through a 36" gate. He had all the insurances, workers comp. along with the truck and trailer. Only was paid for drive time to and while there no drive time back and WAS 2-3x faster then one of the fastest climbers I have ever seen. Even if you could find a climber that could move as fast as the lift the problem is how many trees can he do in a day. I know the man in the lift could do 4-5 large (36" -48" dia) pin oaks in a day compared to the climber who could maybe do 2.5 if that. Its not always a matter of how fast you can get the work done its a how much work you can do in a day.

Re: ATTN: all companies looking for Climbers/ Wor

Blinky, that's almost exactly what I did when I was contracting. I kept kinda quiet about the certs I have since most of the people I climbed for either didn't care or didn't know about them. Some pooped their pants about my bottom line but I let them and then mustered up their groundies and said "LOOK PAL!" By the end of the day they'd be lowering bigger pieces and they'd be proud as a peacock. I'd almost always get called back and those guys put their PPE on the second they saw me. THEN the cool part was when they busted MY chops on a safety. All that to say I find contract work SO rewarding.
