Not sure I follow Ed, care to elaborate? I am also not sure why you felt compelled to reply in this thread at all.

For the record, the climber we just hired , Brian, takes his job very seriously and has a great work ethic. That is what is hard to find these days.

Could be. We aren't looking for "Winter Workers" though. Most people applying have been in that category. We are looking to grow the business through hiring longer term employees looking for a home at Aspen.

One thing to keep in mind is that we do line clearance as well. Anyone who does not want to do that shouldn't apply right now. We ramp up that part of our workload in the Winter.

May be a silly question but how much climbing does the line clearance involve. Is it like the backyard climbing in say Spring Lake, or all bucket work like on the road?

Are you triing to say that I don't take my job seriously and have a bad work ethic?

And I was just saying that I was glad you found someone, and I hope ya'll find more.

Hobby = An art, skill, or interest pursued primarily for pleasure.

I bet brians got his certs ed, or at least he is more than willing to get them. It doesn't make sense to hire someone who refuses to learn more, if anything, it makes that person seem pompous because they think they already know it all. As good or bad as I maybe as a climber, I'm always willing to learn and grow, and that's what makes me more of a desireable hire. That drive is also what makes a good climber great.

Not at all Ed. I was just replying to your message that I interpreted as meaning that he was doing it for a hobby, or just for fun. It had nothing to do with compairing the two of you at all. I never thought that you didn't care about what you do or that you were not serious. As for your work ethic, your current employer speaks highly of you, so that isn;t an issue either.

Not a silly question at all. It is a huge mixture of all. We do a lot of woods work, meaning mowing with rubber tire and traxk machines, climbing for side clearance, and also felling. When the wires go through backyards we climb them. When they go roadside we use lifts to get clearance. It varies greatly.

seems I got to answer 2 questions here

Well I guess you don't know me at all there tuff guy. For one I'm always willing to learn more, cause I for one I hate it when someone knows more about climbing than me. Just bruns my goat. Shoot I even spent sometime coming up with my own ways to do things, just cuase I don't want to be lumped with the rest of the gruppies. trust me son, anyday you think ya'll show me something then call me Betty cuase I'd love to be there. I'd love to learn from others, it's how I was taught.

Ed, I'm simply saying, with no disrespect whatsoever, that if you openly turn your nose to certification, then part of you is saying you don't want to go the extra mile for the additional education. Shoot, you may already know everything in those books and be able to pass the test today. By you not only saying no to certifications but also snubbing those who are certified, it shows that, if anything, you want the certs but are perhaps worried about the whole process. If this is true, and believe me I don't mean to put thoughts or words in your mouth, then this site is exactly the place you should be. With all of these helpful, intelligent people who frequent the site, just about any question will come back with an answer. This site helped me realize that I should get my certs.

Now if you are looking to make the into a "who's the best climber" situation, then you win, congratulation, pat on the back, high fives and what nots. But then again, I'm not worried about being the best, just the best that I can possibly be, and that's why I'll be certified come spring and that's why I'll always have a bright future in the arborculture industry.

Mark, I'm sorry I'm kinda hijacking the thread, ed, if you want to pm me or give me a shout or shoot, even meet for a cup of coffee feel free to hit me up. I'd love to pick yer brain for a bit.

Hi Mark are you still in the market for hiring a experienced climber? I'm a certified arborist, have my CDL class B, and have 5 1/2 years climbing and bucket experience. If your interested please send me a message so we can talk more.
Thanks
