ash trees

None, here, yet. EAB in Colorado. We've got some early detection traps out in the area. Everyone figures it's a matter of time. Some of our parks are up to 75% Ash trees. My neighborhood has probably 90% Ash street trees. If you guys living through EAB were in my situation, what would you do? Start treating like crazy? Plant for future replacement? Something else? A combination?

It's just starting here, mostly to the west of us for more. Came over from NY state. Got a half dozen big ones at a commercial property to take down soon. We did a soil injection of merit on some on the same site and they still look great.

Forty miles south of Indianapolis, IN all of the ash trees on our property had ~80% dead tips this summer. A couple of years ago they were fine. All of them will be removed this winter. Probably 30 or more trees.

7 miles to the south at my home, the ash trees are not showing any die back yet. I expect to lose them all in a couple of years. I'm not looking forward to having a dozen 90'-110' tall ashes die.

I would say Cinci, Oh is in the 70% eab kill range. It is much slower than you expect. We were hit around 05 I believe straight down I75, first hit Springboro north of here then the east side of the city. I found the first D holes in my town. There are still some spots they just have not located yet, and of course, treated trees and some treated and given up on mostly for the expense in different stages of decline.

What to do Chewbaca? Inform your client that treatment works if done early enough and at the right time and dose and chems. Let them decide. But often they tire of paying out and later regret it. Chem co. s will tell you that some day you can stop treating...but not in our lifetimes likely.

It all depends on your client base, our clients are seeing great effectiveness using TreeAge and they are willing to pay to keep their mature Ash. That being said we are also not saving the small / younger trees just because of cost verses replacement. Tree vet when you say it is moving slow I would say that all depends on the region, climate.... our trees showed signs and within 2 seasons our side by side towns are removing 25,000 trees.
