ash top explosion

Gotta get er dun, am I right?

But really the tree didn't have any defects or decay that worried me, aside from it being stone dead. It was pretty much a pole with a small top so I wasn't worried about the integrity of any major unions failing.

After stripping that one I rigged a whole tree down to it and it held up like a champ, and it certainly took a beating.

I have been in and seen a lot of ash trees over the past few years and you can kind of start to get a feel for them after a while.

Or maybe I am just an idiot, I have no idea.

It's the roots that I worry about, on good lookin' dead trees. I only climb the occasional dead tree so far. Maybe one per year.

pretty cool... nice to see it float down and away....
My mentor always warned me about dead ash. He never trusted them.... The roots can can be quite bad when the top looks solid... I wasn't that uptight, but then again he was the one that had a tree drop right out from under him when he made a similar cut as shown in your vid.. That kond of thing will change your attitude quick.. Of course he'd be dead if he wasn't tied into another tree at the time..

I feel you as far as Ash exploding. We had a medium size tree with nice canopy spread that was easily felled in the backyard of the clients home. Had the tree down in 20 minutes. It disintegrated upon hitting the ground and spent five hours picking up all the little pieces of the darn thing. Brittle as could be.
