ASCENTREE

I get that, and do it all the time. That's not what this situation is about however. In this setup there is a figure eight at the top that prevents the legs of the doubled rope from independently moving ie; bodythrusting. This setup 'requires' you to footlock or use some form of mechanical ascender in which case why not just ascend the first single line that got installed.

ahh my bad, looks as though it's the old common rock mixed with tree. Only good I can see of this, is for just that, to be able to use petzls stuff and make the rope more like climbing a ladder.?

Maybe because you now have to static lines coming down... which will enable you to be able to use a pantin on each foot, rather then going with one pantin only.

I did try it in Milwaukee and found it to be about the same as other double ascenders, still needs some form of backup. The double static line system is an option and it does enable you to use two foot ascenders also but is so time consuming and gear intensive that I would relegate this technique to the status of gimmick.

As for the holy grail of double ascenders that require no backup? This aint it. I feel that a prusik cord is still the best(safe, secure, easy, affordable) option for doubled static line ascent.

Or just SRT.
