I came to this industry from a background in military aviation safety. We use a web based application to track safety concerns after a flight. It’s called ASAP or Aviation Safety Awareness Program. It’s used to track and document known safety concerns. This is a tool that I propose we tree guys steal. It would live here on the Buzz and would help to improve the safety on our job sites. Something weird happens or you have a close call. Not really tips and tricks and not really an awakening. No names, no rants, nothing personal...just the facts to make us all work a little safer. You will mostly be telling on yourself. Keep it short. Does this exist for arboriculture? If not this is the dawn of the Arborist Safety Awareness Program.
For instance today while using a CT foot ascender I kicked out of it. After a moment of disbelief and when I reattached the rope I realized that the tail of the strap had gotten caught between the locking mechanism and the body of the device. This caused the lock to pop out. Could have been bad if I was wearing gaffs.
