Are you going to Expo 2017?

Yeah watch out for that arborist of darkness! Once upon a time we were in brooklyn at a workshop then in a pub ..or two.. and after a few. Well let's just say we were enlightened when the wall outside said "well where else you gonna go"

Food and Drinks and Whatnot in downtown Columbus.

Barley's Alehouse is across the street from the convention center. Like 50' or so...
OUTSTANDING micro brewery with many different styles. Growlers to go if you want. Food is pretty damn good too but this place gets packed at lunch during conferences.

Since Barley's is ass to elbows at lunch consider going to Bare Burger which is right next door instead.
http://bareburger.com
Organic burger joint with a bar that you can also get different burgers such as elk, bison, and boar at. Great place.

The North Market is the large building just west of Barley's/Bare Burger and is pretty cool to check out.

Theres a ton of stuff going on in there so check out the merchants section on the website. Last time I was there I found a Polish place with great kolbas, pierogis, stuffed cabbage etc.

Pull up a map of the convention center on your phone for other food options for lunch. You'll be right downtown so options abound and cabs and Uber are easily gotten. The Arena District is a couple blocks west with many food and drink options in it's own right. Good night time lication as well. The Blue Jackets may be in town so catching a game is an option as well.

Lets talk dinner now.

If you want to check out the "Man Versus Food" places you saw on TV...I can't argue with that.
Thurman Cafe is absolutely outstanding.

Epic huge burgers. I've eaten the Thurmanator 3 times but the Thurman Burger is my go-to. Hint: they have hand cut fries but ask for them to be a bit more well-done as they tend to under-cook them IMO. All other food like wings and subs are great but this is a BURGER joint. Highly recommended but this place is TINY so go during off peak hours to get a seat. Plan on waiting in the lobby and drinking beer otherwise while you wait.

Schmidt's is the German food place. I recommend the Autobahn all you can eat buffet and a cream puff for dessert. Cream puffs are HUGE and since you'll be in Cbus, get a chocolate/peanut butter "Buckeye."

The Ohio Deli burned so Katzinger's is the deli to go to. Ridiculously huge menu of sandwich options and free pickles. Very good place.

All 3 of these places are in German Village where the streets are narrow and parking is dreadful. Plan on parking in the vicinity and walking to the actual restaurant.

Steak: Ala-carte, dry aged, and expensive.

Hyde Park is my personal favorite. Located caddy-corner from the Convo. Highly recommend the ribeye with some lobster mac n cheese.

Other options include:

And

Or any Cameron Mitchell restaurant truth be told. Martini's is across from the Convo.

Since Im a good beer guy, heres a couple more micro options with outstanding food as well...

This is the other Barley's location with smoked BBQ.

Cool cool place but food is pricey but higher-end.

CBC is great with wonderful food but has one of the more convoluted and hard to find locations in downtown.

Here's an add-on for diwntown food and drinks.

As a complement to this post, there is a free bus route to and from some of the areas mentioned.

As much as I would love to, it doesn't look as though First National of Billfold will likely have the necessary capital reserves.

Bums me out for multiple reasons, but chief among them would be a sustained three-day drunk with such a noteworthy connoisseur of crime as you, Jason, for a tour guide. Almost guaranteed to produce a good time, a raging hangover and a ten day stint in the slammer for drunk and disorderly conduct... all of which would look great on my resume, but would exceed my current budget for entertainment expenses.
Does this mean we can find you in your room drinking 2 buck Chuck?

Gave up on getting prepped for tonight so tomorrow will be a last minute mad dash to get ready after work. Had truck or treat tonight and in my neck of the woods they gave out candy and beer. I hit more houses than my kids. Should be there before rush hour though

Avoid rush hour if possible. All the majors in and out will be a mess.

I'll be down early thursday morning.

Evening plans?

There's the reception at the Hyatt Ballroom...I'm more of a go to a bar/restaurant kinda dude

PM me and we'll trade #s. Heading home for a little bit I'll be back in a few.

Oh, man! I sure wish I could have been there this year. I had to decline, but for very good reasons here.

Lots of posters on this thread that I was looking forward to meeting, or seeing again. I hope you all have a blast. Someone have a Cider for me. And Mac, watch out for Dan. He mentioned something about some South Pacific sneek attack!

Oh good, I don't feel as bad about missing it this year...if you aren't even there.

Now I get to live vicariously though everyone that is attending.

I always get feeling left out and half-full of regret this time of year when I don't get out to the Expo. It is a great place to feel connected and revitalized. Thanks for sharing shots of what's going on. Document anything and everything awesome and share it here please. Enjoy.

Next year, John! Next year! Just be careful who you live vicariously through this year. ;)

Treestuff, Aplus, ArborMax and I'm sure there were a few more sponsors had a great party for us at the station. The sausage truck was great and the band..... the band... Now I can say I've heard Nirvana sung to the beat of the Chicken Song... :bananahappy:
