Arbor-X’s Versatile K-boom Pictures.

6of6.

i'll tell of a mistake on this job.

the last trunk pick, no picture of, just a video...

we had several long slings to reach the lower trunk because the boom was over wires as you saw.

well with those long slings, the pick had some sway back and forth as i was moving it.

i waited for a while for it to settle, it was taking forever to settle down, we should have put a tag line on it as i had wanted to.

anyway, you know how like when you are hauling up your 200t on your climbing line and you use the swing to get it past limbs without hitting them?....

well, i felt like i had waited long enough, i got the trunk pick near the line, when it swayed away from the line, i tried to lift fast enough to get it above the line before it came back, well, it wasn't a good idea, it came back before i had it high enough and it bounced against the line. the line to the house had a temporary splice in it from being broken earlier in the season (a falling limb from this tree) and that splice pulled out. i called my friend in the elect company and he said they only put them in on storm damage crisis and they pull apart all the time. the guy that came back out to energize looked at it and said i can't redo the splice because we only do that during emergencies, this loop drop needed a whole new line anyway, so he replaced the whole line.

just thought i share and show that i'm not perfect. i might be close, but not perfect.

yes, free, because he said it had to be scheduled at some time to put in a new line anyway; with that splice that it had (like a big crimp connector that it had).

my friend didn't come out, i didn't know the guy that came out.

could have gone under the two electric loop wires, but look again, there are multiple lower lines; cable and phone lines that were in the way. see, almost in line at that first knuckle...

On that subject: here's a picture from this week, kboom under the wires, maple removal, picture from my phone (still pretty good for a phone). top lines still hot.

another view from up top.

i actually have a video of this job somewhere. (just a video camera in my hand and also mounted it in the tree top and also some mounted on the boom tip).

back at my property. i don't have to unload that stuff the same day, i can just lay the beds on the ground and unload when i got time.

so, to get the job done in a day, take the logs back to the lot, put it down on the ground and leave it. Then go get the skid loader and take it home too. Deliver the logs to the mill when i get time.

Looking at your setup with the removable beds (very cool...) it occurred to me that perhaps a trailer frame, no bed or anything just the frame (and running gear of course) and perhaps engaging brackets to quicken securing the load, the load being the removable truck bed shown with the skid steer on it. That way you'd left that job towing the trailer and not have had to come back/make another trip. You could even (maybe) carry the trailer frame on the bed of the KB truck, like loggers do with their pup trailers when not in use.
I got a picture somewhere of my pickup being towed behind my old 3470 Terex, with my Goldwing in the bed of the pickup, with my weiner/bassett mutt in his preferred riding place, the rear trunk of the bike (lid removed). It was not a staged shot, it made sense that day for the "mission".

Yeah, more pictures!

alright, since we are Demo-ing the k-booms next week during TCIA days, it seems right I should continue this thread of picture posting:

A tree company in Baltimore called and asked that we finish this job for them. The trunks were a pain in the rear for them.... kinda for us too though.

Huge FAT Norway maples:
