Not only a TIP, a remote controlled, moveable TIP!!!

Quite a few times.

One comes to mind.

Two large wide spreading silver maples.

complete thinning, deadwooding a slight crown reduction.

position the k-boom above the crown, work that side of the tree on the way to the ground,

boom takes me back up, work the other side and so on.

it was extremely nice on that one.

Here.

I don't like to see holly trees sheared myself, I'd rather see them grow "wild" but some people like them full and tight shape.

In years past I've had two groundmen hold the ladder, or I've even put together ladders like scafolding (sp.?). but the k-boom is the absolute best for that type of work.

alright, back to a few more pictures i guess:

i think this was off loading some heavy logs, instead of dumping them and having them tear the bed up.

With that said, can you turn off the truck and hold the K-boom in the same position for long periods of time? This would save fuel and reduce noise if someone were trimming with the K-boom.

I forgot to answer this part.

With a flip of a switch on the remote, I can shut off the truck's engine.

Push the switch the other way and it starts the truck.

I do this on big trimmings where the boom will be sitting in one location for a good while.

It can sit this way all day.

The only negative I see, is that the crane electronics are still on, therefor I believe the hour meter on the crane is still running. hence, it is eating up my waranty hours, but it's not that big of a deal.

You mentioned offloading logs to avoid damage to the bed when dumping. What kind of damage do you think would occur? Do you wish you had a heavier duty bed?

[/ QUOTE ]

You should never really dump with stakes.

Big heavy logs with knots/bumps will really damage the stakes or pockets.

I want a heavy duty log box. But can't afford everything at once.

will build a removable top for it too, so can chip into it.

I can take a picture of one of the military flatbeds if you want. almost every pocket is ripped and tweeked.

I haven't had time to continue the pictures.

but here's one that I think is very neat from this week.

Kevin did it and I think it's really cool with the images in the door reflection and all.

so I was inspired to post it ahead of time.

I'll get back to the timeline of pictures soon I hope.

Is that a spool for the hydraulic hoses? If so, I guess you have to watch that often, eh?

[/ QUOTE ]

yes.

I have an idea to have more quick connects so I can dis-connect them from the plate at the end of the boom and let them roll up on the last roll and stay there, that way the hoses aren't out at the end of the boom the all the time when they aren't in use.

I broke them off this past summer from the end of the boom, and they are plugged still at this time and rolled up on the roller.

the hoses do run on the same side as the slides and stuff, so thats the side of the boom I don't want stuff rubbing anyway.

I was going to get the "chain" type hoses when I was having the truck built, but they told me they get bent and I'd have problems with them. I agree now. The hoses can can snagged and pretty much the hose reel just unrolls a bit and the hose can bend and such.

now that I have them rolled up, they are no problem. occasionally i have to watch out for the hose reel.

my quick connect idea will be easy to do and should solve the problem of having hoses to watch out for.

picture: see the second hose reel, the top one? usually there are 4 hoses that stretch to the end of the boom. here they are on the reel because i broke the ends off of them. (cuttenwolf is the climber here)

I'll bet that pear wouldn't have failed if it had been topped.
