Anyone use these yet?

One of the other climbers at work just got one. I'll be able to tell you soon. He's switching it out on his lanyard after the Charlotte comp. He said that its a little different but doesn't seem like it will be to hard to get used to.

I think Steve Bullman from Arbtalk could tell you more. I think hes been using one for a couple of months now.

Is there anything wrong with these snaps (competition wise)

I've been using one for about a month now. It was a little awkward at first but after a few climbs I got the feel of the action and I like it now. The locking tab does catch chainsaw chips sometimes but I haven't had it jamb yet. Overall I'm happy with it so far.

Why use snaps at all?

I made the switch a year ago to biners and haven't looked back since.

I use a hitch climber with a vt as my lanyard set up. I used to use snaps but they dont fit into the holes of the hitch climber which is important to me because I often switch the position of my lanyard to my floating D and use it as a short climbing line. The switch only took a few days then it was like I had been using it for years

The only thing I think it is missing is the swivle. I use the steel swivle snaps now and like the way they keep the lanyard from twisting. Family tree, I have put a micro mouse pulley on my lanyard, the snap fits through with out any problems, saves my expensive hitch climber for my line. And I havent found the instance where I needed that extra hole on my lanyard.

I used to use snaps in the winter (when I had on multiple layers of gloves). It was too difficult to use the Petzl William ball biners with thick gloves. However, I use regular ugly gloves with some good glove liners from and I put the snaps away for good.

I guess for me. I just like biners better. And I'm sure there are many who just like snaps.

The old snaps can open themselves in the d-ring on your belt when they are not on tension and the snaphook turns towards your boddy. In that way the pressure off your boddy opens the snap easily and it will pull out the d-ring before you know it. Thats why they don't use 'm in europe during competitions.

I liked snaphooks but i'm also very happy with my biners that are easier to handle onehand then the new hook.

I have never had the regular locking snaps open on me or even seem like they could.

Regardless, I got the ISC triple locker a couple weeks ago and I love it. I'll follow up with a video very soon...

After a few tries you can open it as fast as you can a "regular" snap.

I'll second that Nick.

I had one of the prototypes from last year, it was great.....but ISC still thought they could improve it, they were right. Easy, fast and very reassuring.

I've got the CAMP snaps and like Nick never had an unintentional open with them.

I started in this line with the steel snaps and still can't figure why, if the steels are allowed, the aluminum snaps cause such a ruckus. The mechanisms are essentially the same.

In any case though, I think all my snaps are going to find themselves up on ebay shortly and be replaced with some easy to activate triacts.

At ITCC in RI last year they issued photos of snaps that were unacceptable but I don't remember why. There may have been some percieved opening hazard or who knows...maybe there IS an opening hazard. They looked very close to the ones you're discussing and I know Kong issued a model that looks VERY close to these. These were probably only unacceptable in competition. I loved the model that Petzl issued with the Grillion. Does anyone have them in non-colored stainless they'd like to sell? 'scuse my derail. Whiz

Have only had a snap undo itself once but was the older style snaps. Figure it was just a matter of time before they made the change over with the newer saddles out. Know depending on positioning it's possible for the lower d-rings on the tree motion to make the 1st action on the double locking snaps and all that is needed then is some rotation to fully open. Shouldn't be too hard to switch over to them myself being I use the double locking version of these and hold my pointer finger on the snap where the first action is anyway when I clip in.
