I collect black walnuts every couple years. Husk them with chemical resistant gloves then power wash them until all the stain is gone. Let them dry then. Use a bench vise to crack them. Can last years in the shell. Great for all sorts of things including just a snack.

But the copious nuts from it’s formidable cones are delicious!! For availability and flavor, I’m putting these on par with blackberries and apples!
