Anyone ever forage tree nuts while climbing?

The seeds from most pines are edible (though a lot of work for small results) think mini sunflower seeds, assuming you can get them before the squirrels.

But the copious nuts from it’s formidable cones are delicious!! For availability and flavor, I’m putting these on par with blackberries and apples!

I collect black walnuts every couple years. Husk them with chemical resistant gloves then power wash them until all the stain is gone. Let them dry then. Use a bench vise to crack them. Can last years in the shell. Great for all sorts of things including just a snack.

I think they taste...."tropical". Maybe a little like mango? Consistency of banana, but a lot sweeter.

I like sweet. I like fruit. Pawpaw is OK. I couldn't eat it everyday - which works out OK because it is a very short season and it doesn't store.

A good tree climber friend makes amazing black walnut ice cream and cookies. Bench vise sounds excellent for cracking them, the way she does it is with a hammer which works but...
