Any Fellow Woodworkers?

You might be able to find a wood turner's club in your area. Some members might live close by and let you use their shop and tools if you supply them with wood and tree care. That is how I do it.

I would advise that you practice on less valuable pieces of wood before attempting the burls.Good luck turning.

Good advice! I'll have to check out the local club. It's a bit of a hike but possibly worth the effort.

A few months ago, a customer gave me her "old" Delta lathe(about a $900 lathe new...only a year or 2 old). She got some big fancy thing with digital displays and all the bells and whistles. I have been cutting burls off of trees and grabbing some "interesting" pieces. Trying to grab some of all different kinds of wood. Locust, ash, cherry, Sophora japonica, red/white/pin oak, sycamore. I have a few pieces that came from a limb from a huge sycamore about 7.25' DBH, and some from an old oak that is over 6.5' DBH(George Washington may have pissed on this tree as it's that old in he was in the area

. I thought it would be neat to make something from it and attach that little story to it. Every piece I have I remember where it came from(yeah I remember weird things).

Hey pajeep, I wish a customer would give me a nice lathe like that. I hope you have as much fun as I have. Here is a spalted maple vessel I am working on. Maple Vessel

I made the whole thing with only a bowl gouge and a parting tool.
