Anxiety About This Experience with a Customer

And how do you let go of a customer, fire a customer, walk away from a job after already showing up because customer is giving you a hard time, without worrying about them going online and giving you a bad review?
Not for everyone but...don’t have a reviewable presence online. I keep meaning to make a website and whatnot but also like not having to worry about all that noise. Word of mouth is real nice after one reaches critical mass.

I’ve come to the conclusion that I just don’t want people’s money all that bad to deal with their Unreasonable issues they likely carry around in every Life transaction they encounter. I can usually tell within initial meeting And sometimes from the first phone call and Quickly formulate an exit strategy. Luckily it Doesn’t happen all that often.

@climbingmonkey24 My take on you situation comes from growing up in a painting business my grandfather started in 1950. It was passed to my dad and uncle, then I started in it 1980. We did A LOT of work for wealthy people, and some could be real asses. My dad and grandfather were the best with customers I've ever seen. Look them in the eye, tell them the facts, ask what can be done to move forward. Smile, keep the conversation upbeat, make a joke, then bust your ass to prove them wrong. I saw dad have a few problems with customers, but we never walked. This was a small town though. The one customer that dad had a big problem with on one job, ended up giving dad all of his future work, along with the work on both of his son's houses, which were big and nice. This man's family also showed up at my dad's funeral, aling with a ton of his old customers. He was really good with the customers.

I deal with all my customers the same way and have had only minor issues. The one customer who gave me the most shit about how to do things, is also responsible for a bunch of referrals. Just got me another $2,500 last week, and possibly a long term contract with a cemetery. There are times to walk, just think it through. Maybe the hubby and wife may not get along and he took it out on you.

Just thought I'd mention that the family painting business is still active being run by my first cousin. That's 70 years.

Around a year later and I still have anxiety about this customer coming back and writing a negative review because I walked. And I wonder why did I walk and did I make the right decision to walk? What do you guys think about this? Thoughts / opinions?

Also in other news, feels damn good to be rolling up to my jobs now in a new truck versus the Nissan Rogue I was towing my equipment with back then. Grateful for the humble beginnings though.
